Okay, this isn't weight loss per se, but need advice on clothing...

I found a great formal dress today (for my cruise) for a great price. It's a regular (not women's) size 16 petite. It fits perfectly on top (a miracle - I must be losing there), but is a bit too tight on the bottom. I wasn't wearing any pantyhose or slimming things when I tried it on and it pulled somewhat around my hips and rear. Both the salesladies thought it looked good, but agreed they wouldn't buy it because they might be uncomfortable when sitting -- the dress was very tight when I sat down. Oh, they didn't have a size 18 or 20.

My question is, would you buy this dress? It's next to impossible for me to find a formal dress that is a plus/petite. And, for less than 80 dollars. I think that if I have slimming stockings and underwear, it'll look okay when I'm standing up for pictures. I may be uncomfortable for dinner. I could use it again for a wedding in May (provided it doesn't get to be too big).

This is the first time in a long time that I haven't tried on a frumpy, flowy plus-sized dress, so I'm excited that it practically fit, but don't want to regret it when I'm on board and can't really get comfortable.

Advice, please!

Edited to add - I'm leaving on Friday.

I would go for it. Honestly, when I started buying new clothes, I would (and still do) by a little small. Where it's almost uncomfortable at first. Usually it was only a few weeks before it felt comfortable.

If it really felt uncomfortable, and you felt like you would never wear it again and outgrow it before you would, then maybe not. Go back and try it on. Sit in it, move around in it. Wear what you would wear with it, the stockings etc. You may find that it will work.

I am so excited for you. I know how great it is to go try on something that would have never fit before. Keep up the great work, you are doing fabulous.

I agree. Go back and try it on with the slimming pantyhose. You can change after pictures and dinner, so it only has to be bearable for that time. Treat yourself to a great dress- you deserve it!

I think I'll go back tomorrow with all my slimmin' stuff on. I do want to make sure that from behind, my rear doesn't "look like two pigs fightin' under a blanket". :D

And, another benefit of getting a smallish dress - I'll have to watch what I eat, so I don't bust a zipper come formal night.

So my follow-up question, what does one wear with a shimmery silver dress? I can't have the shoes dyed to match - don't have the time. Any suggestions for that?

Like I've said before, I was born without the fashion gene! I don't even have makeup. I'm thinking about going to the department store and get a "makeover", then see if I can replicate the look with the cheaper, CVS stuff.

I'll let you know how I make out tomorrow.

I agree.. I would buy it and work my butt off all week! I too buy clothes that are a bit snug cause I KNOW it will fit. Certain things I hang over my bedroom dorr as a daily reminder. I currently have a sz 12 sz 10 and an 8.
good luck

Jenn-

I hope you have good luck with that dress when you go back today with your "slimmin stuff"!;)

As far as what to wear with shiny silver, hit a Payless shoe store. They usually have dyable shoes. Although you won't be able to have them dyed, they are a nice satiny white that shines and will look good. Or you may be lucky enough to find a pair of silver in your size. Plus payless is not expensive, so if you never wear them again, it won't matter.:smooth:

I think the makeover idea is a good one. I've been planning to do it myself, just have never found the time to do it. I think you need to make an appointment ahead of time, so call before you go. (That's what the Estee Lauder counter people told me anyhow.) Like you said, then just buy the cheaper stuff at CVS.

Let us know how you make out! Oh, I wish I was going on a cruise!!!!

I bought the dress. It wasn't a perfect fit and is probably a bit more form fitting around my hips than it should be. But, it didn't pull in front (leave a crease) and I knew I wasn't going to find anything better than this in such a short time. I worked out last night and will do so as much as possible this week. DD has an ear infection (she should be fine by Friday), so that has me scrambling even more.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I'll post pictures when I get back!

I'm not sure about shoes yet. I'm going to hit a Payless or Martys by me some time before the cruise and hope that I find something I like.

Not sure about accessories either. I don't have any earrings or necklaces and I think I'll need something. Plus, I'm kind of stressed about my hair. It won't do what I want it to do and is too short to put up.

Oh well, from the bustline to the waist, I'll look good! :D
