What would you do?

DH and I had originally planned a 10 day trip with the boys for this October however financial stuff ruined my forward planning so we are now left with two options. We had decided to get our Disney fix with a small but expensive DLP trip in September, we were *this* close to booking when we get a call from my sisters in law today. They are planning a 15 night trip for 3 adults and 3 kids (11, 8 and 4) for June 2015 and wanted to know if we would like to come. Now our reasons for not planning on going back ourselves next year basically boil down to the fact that we are planning (all going well) to have another child (keeping with the age gap we have going with the two boys we might as well stay going lol, what can I say, I'm definitely a planner!!) and also DH reckons the two kids who would be 1 and 3 would be tough work especially if I were to be pregnant. Now the in laws have asked us to go, one of them is my youngest boys godmother and both she and her son (11) are fantastic with the kids so we are aware we would have a helping hand or two. We have fully acknowledged that if we don't go to WDW next year it may be years before we get back with 3 in tow. Now the dilemma! Having looked at crowd calendars for the dates my in laws are planning (bearing in mind they are very much "lets just wing it!" kinda people) I'm slightly put off. They are looking at the last two weeks in June/start of July time frame and all crowd calendars say this June/July are estimated at a 9 or 10 for those days. Is it worth it? They are very much tied to school holidays but might I be better off suggesting going around Easter? I don't know if they are open to negotiations but I want to at least have done a little homework before saying anything. Maybe we are better off leaving them to it and just doing DLP! But then I feel sad thinking I'm passing up a perfectly good trip!! What would you do? Anyone been before at that time? They want to rent a villa but DH has said we will only stay with them for half the trip and do onsite with just the boys for at least a couple of days. I won't be doing many rides if I'm pregnant but don't want to be making the kids wait in massive lines for the small ones that I could do!!

I'm not sure what I would do. I can't tell from your post whether the 'short but expensive' trip to DLP is one that you can afford or whether you are doing it just because you can't make it to WDW this year.

As far as going to WDW in June next year, it really all depends again on your reasons. So much is dependent on whether you are pregnant, which you might not be and what the crowds will be like. It's pretty hard to give you advice, to be honest, as I can't even imagine myself in that situation.

What I do know (from experience) is that trips with other people, be it friends or extended family, are difficult and stressful and you wouldn't necessarily want to put yourself under added stress, especially if you are going when it is hot and the parks are busy.

You have to consider what suits you and your family and, to be honest, I don't think anybody else can understand enough about your personal circumstances to make that decision for you.

If you are planning on trying how far pregnant would you possibly be?

I am not sure I would want a summer trip heavily pregnant and I did go at 32 weeks pregnant but that was March and while it was busy it wasn't hot and busy.

From what I have read on this forum and others, Easter will be just as busy, however the weather won't be as hot.
It is iirc Spring Break over in US and also the schools out in the UK.

The dates the In Laws have chosen will be busy due to coming up to 4th July.

Now as has been mentioned, are you only going to DLP due to not being able to go to WDW?

Now not trying to put a downer on your family planning, but what happens if you say no, but the planning doesn't work out for you. Would you be kicking yourself.
If it does work out for you possibly how long along will you be.
With the in laws there will it be to much hard work for you and your family?

Easter is slightly busier than summer, going by crowd levels, but you have the heat working against you in the summer time and as Tracy says, heavily pregnant in the heat?

I can't speak for you but if it were me, I'd rather have one more family break with just the immediate family, not extended family. Book it, plan it my way, plan it for me and us and keep it as a special family trip. Even if it's a shorter one or a compromise (? DLP) Just my 2c

Everyone can give thoughts but ultimately you will eventually need to make a decision as a couple.

I wish you the very best :goodvibes

We are not planning to try until March so if we got lucky first try I would be 3, possibly close to 4 months. The reason we are looking at DLP is cause we 100% won't get to WDW this year, we have 3 family weddings, a new car and decided to start some home improvements. DLP sounds lovely (have never been) but we love love love WDW so would choose that in a heartbeat but I'm a little resistant with the crowd predictions being so high. Theres a few 10s and mostly 9s then, would they be unbearable? We've been there for Xmas a few years back with my in laws and found it manageable enough, obviously not getting many rides done but thats generally the case with small kids getting easily distracted by a squirrel or duck walking by lol. As mentioned there we've been with these inlaws before and have been on several sun holidays in Europe with them also so they don't particularly worry me, its more the crowds and heat for my boys, and myself of course if we are pregnant then. When we went last year my cousins wife was 7 months pregnant and found it very hard work. DH has just been saying its entirely up to me, he'll fund it if I want to do it. I'm just not sure why I'm so hesitant. Maybe I shouldn't have bothered looking at those crowd calendars!! If we don't go then we probably won't be back there til 2018 at the earliest, we have 2 family weddings both abroad in 2016 and at that stage all going well the kids will outnumber the adults so we'd want to wait til they are at least school going age (though this was never the initial plan but now that I have the two of them its definitely harder to do even the most normal everyday stuff) Have just been informed by hubby that one of his sisters is tied to summer for her holidays, she can't get the days off around Easter so its looking like end of June or not at all....

TBH, you sound like you've more or less made your mind up ;)

DLP is not a patch on WDW. So much so that DH says he will never go back!

DLP is hugely expensive too - JMO but I think you'd be far better putting your money towards WDW if you can stretch to it. 3/4 days in DLP or 14 days in WDW which is far superior... I definitely know which I would pick ;)

Ok - if I was going to go in June I would put off trying until then.

Go and have the holiday and worry about another baby when you get back. :thumbsup2

I think thats what is in my head, it is just so much money for so few days when a little extra gets you so much more in WDW!

Tried to reply here the other day and it wouldnt let me so now I have a minute I hope this works lol. We have decided to do just this! The lure of a Florida holiday while my boys are still so small just appeals way too much so since we are kinda tied to dates for when we can try for baby #3 (those family weddings abroad in 2016 mean that I wouldnt be able to fly which wouldnt work as I'm bridesmaid in both) so we're just going to Florida and will hold off on another child until Autumn next year. More time enjoying the two I have and getting to enjoy our first family of 4 holiday :) Spoke to one of my SILs today and she has said they are more than happy to let me plan the whole thing which makes it even better ;) Only 390 days but sure whos counting!

i see you've decided, but i'll give my two cents anyway..

we've only been to DLP once and didn't particularly like it...
in fact, of all the disney parks worldwide, we would rate DLP the last of the bunch..

so if it were me, i'd much rather save the money and put it all on an even nicer WDW holiday whenever we could do one..

as for june/july....
we've been there many many many many many many times at that time...
yes it's very very crowded....insanely so...
and yes it's very very hot...insanely so...
and yes it's very very humid.....way beyond insanely so...
but it's the happiest place on earth and there really is nowhere else i'd rather be, no matter the crowds, no matter the weather..

(oh yes, i've drunk the koolaid)..

my advice is - when you're there at that time of year, plan on taking it easy....
relax, take it slow and don't worry about what ride you're missing or not.....
anything else is a recipe for disaster in that weather....
relax relax relax and take it slow and easy....lots of pool time...lots of down time...
you're in the happiest place on earth..... stress should be left on the plane!! :)

so bottom line? yes - go for it...june...july...whenever....it's disney world....you'll have a wonderful time....
.

If you are on here then you must be a bit of a planner, so those dates should be fine with a little planning. I went at that time of year and although it was hot, one of those fan water sprays kept the kids happy, we did indoor rides at the hottest time of day, got to the parks early to hit all the big rides before the queues built up, and we had a great 4th of July at Epcot (the least crowded park!)
