We have 160 AKL. Using 108 in January for 2 SSR studios (54 points each) during marathon. Wish I would have known I was running the 2013 marathon back at our 11 month mark in February but, I had just finished running my first 1/2 at the Princess! I really could have used the value studios. I am wait listed for a 2BR AKL value during the marathon at 110 points. In January, we are buying AP's and TiW card.

We plan on another two vacations in 2013. One for about 5 nights during the end of August (8/19-8/24) and one for 3 nights in October for my 10th anniversary (10/17-10/20). One of these we will need to pay OOP by either renting points or buying room-only. For August, it's 53 points for a value at AKL, but if I book it this September, I won't have enough points in my account if my January wait list comes through. If I use the points for October 2013, I would need to book 11 months out at AKL and then hope that something is available for me to switch to Boardwalk or Beach Club for my anniversary at 7 months out and this is during F&W.

If I pay OOP for August, we might just do value or mod and hope that we get an AP rate.

I know DVC will let you buy one-time points, but do they let you keep them in your account? Most people won't transfer such a small amount and want at least 100 points for rentals.

One time use points can only be used starting at 7 months out. You will only be able to purchase the number needed to complete a reservation, not to hold in your account. If you cancel the reservation, you can not bank nor transfer the one-time use points.

You could book the August reservation in September by buying one time use points for that reservation and leave a few points in your account in case the AKL wait list comes through. As far as I know there is no rule that says you have to completely empty your account of points before buying the one-time use points. Then if the wait list doesn't come through, you can bank the few points you had leftover ...

Btw, I've rented points several times for just one night to add on to the beginning or end of my reservation on my own points, (as well as transferred some smaller amounts in) so smaller points rentals (and transfers) are find-able, just somewhat rarer and require more willingness to e-mail a lot of people and find someone who matches your rental needs.

Personally if I was in your shoes, I'd borrow points to book the August trip, leave a few current in your account just in case of the January wait list coming through, and also start looking for a transfer in of BWV/BCV points for you F&W trip since between now and November you just might be able to find somebody. Then if you can't find somebody, book the location you want for cash maybe for the F&W?

Hmmm, instead of paying for 5 nights in August with my points, could I use 4 nights worth so I have some left for my wait list, then at the 7 month mark, would I be able to buy one-time points and add on to that August reservation?

I think this might make sense and then for October '13, I can find someone in November of '12 to rent 38 points to me.

Ok, was reading around on the boards and want to know if this is possible.


2013 points, August UY -160.

January 2013 - AKL Value 2 BR 1/11-1/15 110 points. 50 remaining. (I'm hoping my wait list comes through, if not, I'm only using 108 points and will have 52 remaining.)


August 2013- AKL Value1BR 8/19-8/27 190 points. Here's where it gets tricky. Can I use my remaining 50 points from 2013 and borrow 140 from 2014 points since it's an August trip? I would be calling at the 11 month mark (9/19/12).

October 2013 Hoping to rent points for 10th anniversary at BWV or BCV.

This stuff confuses me, please help.

Your January trip would have to borrow the 110 points since you don't get yours until Aug. unless you have 2012 pts right now.

For August, you could use the 50 and borrow the balance from 2014. When you call is not related to which points you are using.

Perfect! I already borrowed from my 2013 for my January trip. Do you know when I have to make a reservation wit the 2013 points or bank them before losing them?

I just wanted to make sure if I call next month, I will be able to borrow 2014 points for 2013.

When you call is not related to what points you are using. Only what use year you are booking for affects what points you can use.

I would make reservations with DVC Mike since you have not sent any money and no contract was signed.

I would explain to the owner that you are cancelling with him because he has been pretty unresponsive to your requests.
