What would you do??

We have holidays this summer and are trying to decide what to do? We are talking about going and driving around Washington, Idaho and Wyoming for 16 night or Disneyworld for 16 nights? Now we are also talking about buying annual passes and going at Xmas this year and April 09. Would you do something different or go to Disney again. We love Florida and the trips would cost about the same, Disney might even be a little cheaper, due to fuel, shopping and hotels. We would stay in a condo in Florida and the hotels on the drive would be much more. We would do way more shopping on the road trip and who knows what fuel will cost this summer, not to mention the wear and tear on the vehicle with driving 5000 - 6000 km. Plus I think Florida would be more relaxing for all of us. We have been there in August, just the two of us without the kids. Our kids are 8 & 10. We all love heat. So something different or WDW? I know it is a personal choice, but I just wanted some thoughts on it. Thanks for all your help!!

You need to decide yourself whether you want a red or lime green house. When you ask everyone on the planet of lime green if you should paint your house red the responses are predictable. You think you want red but by reading between the lines you really want that lime green house so buy the paint and get on with it

I would love to see the Seattle area, don't know anything about Idaho, but having lived near Wyoming, that is a lot of prairie.

I vote for Disney but do what your heart tells you. Can you take a family vote? Sometimes putting your top three reasons why for each vote will help everyone to see things in a new light?

Both are great trips. You could always drive to Disneyland for the same miles as WA,ID & WY. It's approx 25 - 27 hours from Calgary.
Tho Seattle is great, as is Yellowstone & Glacier parks.
You could drive to Vancouver, Seattle and across to Yellowstone. I find some parts of the interstate in WA and MT pretty boring.

My son is 11 and we finds lots of little, out of the way places along the way, to check out. I was just reading about the diamond mine in NY post, we did a opal dig in ID last year. It was really cool, not at the dig site but in the very little village store backyard. There's Bear World outside of Idaho Falls that we went to twice, got to feed 6 month old bears from big baby bottles.

If you go to DW lots I recommend the driving trip this time. Do you like camping? It's a cheaper alternative from motels. I find the time without tv relaxing and my son hardly misses it ( he does overdose on it when we get home).

Thank you for your replies. I figured with it being the dis it was going to be of course go to WDW, but I just wanted to see what other ideas some people might have. We have driven to DL 4 times and none of us are interested in that, but thanks. We like camping and have a rv, but it sometimes is not worth the extra fuel for pulling it down around the states. We did do that in 2005 around the state of Montana. As for voting, me and the kids would vote Disney in a heartbeat, but my DH is on the fence. Do you think going during our summer is a good idea. During our Winter and Spring is a no brainer for us. I guess I need to get DH to decide what he wants and why and then give our opinions and see what happens?????

The drive through Washington, Idaho, and Wyoming is beautiful...a heck of a lot more interesting than Montana I personally would never go in the summer time to WDW because I would not be able to handle the humidity. I love the heat though!!! There is enough to do around here in the summer to keep us busy and if we get bored we just go camping or to B.C. You seem to go quite often and do not mind the heat/humidity. Have you thought about buying DVC?

Due to the heat and humidity in Disney at that time of year I would have to vote to do something different!!
We had the choice to do Disney or something else this summer and we chose to see more of Canada - we're driving from Ontario to Nova Scotia and have rented a cottage there. Looking forward to doing something different!!

For me I could go to Florida every trip. But I am wondering once we get some sun and heat here will that be what I need to make it through until December?? We did a small road trip this past weekend down to the states and my DS was really nauseous the whole time and I am worried he can't handle a 6000 km road trip?? Hopefully it was just this time, as we did a 4000 km road trip last summer and he was not too bad. See maybe because we did a road trip last summer, we should do Florida this summer and a road trip again next summer???
Wishful thinking?? Can someone make up my mind for me so then I can convince my DH what we should do...
I think sometimes we should try something new, but we have done the Bahamas and it was not our thing. We camp and quad from May to Oct and usually get about 30 to 40 nights out in our trailer, so when it comes to longer holidays I want to do something else, not camp. We have driven to DL 4 times and if I am going to spend the money I want to go to Florida. Did I just make a decision?? No...I am just crazy now!!! Help Oh Tiki Lords !!! Help all wise Dis board memebers...

I'd take a trip to Disney world ,,,but that being said I've been there in the summer and even the employees can't stand the humidity. However with any well planned out vacation (lots of water,,misty fans,,breaks ,pool swims,mickey bars) you should be ok.

I just did a 7,615 km round trip - Montana, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington. The Pacific Coast and Oregon Coast is beautiful and very scenic, although very twisty - take gravol. Utah, Arizona and Nevada was nice. You could go to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam, on your way to Disneyland! Take some extra time and explore the California Coast it is breathtaking!

You know another thing I thought of was we have done a cross Canada coast to coast trip 2 times now and it was absolutely fantastic to see the rest of the country. The beaches are incredible in PEI! I don't know if you have had a chance to explore the rest of Canda but it certainly is worth it!!!

Go to WDW and maybe do a cruise in the middle.
I know it's going to hot and humid but that's why they built the water parks, the pools and don't forget the beach is not too far away. I've been at WDW many time and each time I say, "next time I'll try the water parks". Well going in the summer would change the way I spend my time at WDW, but I know I'd still enjoy it. Where is DH leaning towards?

My DH is probably split in the middle or maybe 60/40 for the road trip. But I keep mentioning that we could do some other things we have not done before. He could do some fishing, we could go to Daytona and other things we have not done. ???

I'll throw in my 2 cents. When I was the age of your kids we did Idaho, Wyoming etc... and my brothers and I found it deadly boring!! We desperately wanted to go back to Disneyland. We drove from southern AB, so a little closer than you are, as I see you're in Millet. As a young adult I did Washington, Oregon, Northern CA and thought it was some of the most beautiful land I'd seen. My vote would be for Disney World, especially if you can handle the heat. Are your kids okay with humdity? Alberta is so dry that 3 layers of my skin are falling off as I'm writing this.

Well I thought I had him leaning more for the WDW trip, but now the flights just went up $200.00 per person!!!!!!! Just today! I have been asking him, but no confirmation so I did not book them. So they would have been $1200 with some ama dollars we have and now they will be $2000 (ouch!!) We pay that for Christmas, but not a summer trip. The whole reason he was leaning towards WDW was the cheap flights. Well that might be out the window. We will have to watch and see if another deal comes along.
