What would you do?

No lie, I have nightmares about this sort of thing. I would like to think I would mature about it, but really, I think I would have quite the crying jag.

if that was to happen to me, i would take the refund granted i was being upgraded "hotel class" wise. If i was getting booted from my chosen moderate resort, you better believe I would want the free upgrade to Deluxe.

thats my $0.02...

I sent an email earlier today to Disney in regards to this. I just think the whole process was aweful. I wanted to cry and I don't know how I held it all in. At the end it was the approach and the way it was presented to us. The manager was just aweful.

From what I heard, they will move you to a place of equal or better value. And if you move from POR to POFQ and they don't have a pool, then thats not an EQUAL move. So I would of asked to be moved to another Mod or a Deluxe.

My thoughts exactly. If the pool was important and POFQ couldnt provide one, I would have asked to be moved to another mod with a pool available or bumped to a deluxe.

Thanks everyone. I asked for an upgrade but was told that every single resort in Disney was completely booked and sold out (except of course FQ). I really felt it was Disney's fault and not mine that all of this was happening (and it didn't help that we were starving to death and this was taking forever)

Something tells me there were probably some $2,000 a night suites sitting empty....they should have gone above and beyond for you and your family.

Lord knows we don't want to split up cheerleaders. :rolleyes1 I always thought WDW is the #1 family destination??

I hate it when people do that. Why should you be made to feel guilty about their mistake? That kind of behavior by management is unacceptable. Apparently they felt no guilt in doing this to you. Bravo for standing your ground :thumbsup2 .

I wholeheartedly agree. Bravo to you! :woohoo: :woohoo:

While I completely agree with the sentiment, I wouldn't want Disney to split them up. There are legal issues since the ratio of kids to chaparones could change if some were sent elsewhere.

For the OP, it sounds like they could have handled the situation better and I hope that you get some satisfaction from guest services.

I'm aware of that, but let's face it a family has paid more than the group of cheerleaders because more than likely they got a big discount because they booked more than 10 rooms which a family rarely does.

I wouldn't want to displace kids either, but the OP was not treated with the respect she deserved which we all agree about. ;) I too would have advised them if they wanted to me to move it was going to cost them more than a free night. I would consider a move to a deluxe resort as fair since they overbooked.

While I love POFQ and would have chosen it over POR, I'd feel the same way if asked to move to POR.

my 1st trip to disney (1974), we were booked at the Poly; however, our TA called us less than a week b4 to advise us that the Poly wasn't available & they were relocating us to the Contemporary instead. We were SO disappointed - especially as our 1st memory of Disney. We specifically chose to go to Disney BECAUSE of the Poly! No comp no nothing - take it or leave it so we took it.

There is a widespread hotel industry practice of "walking" a guest. They literally don't walk you to another hotel but have the right to give you comparable accommodations if they can't house you. Not good for the customer and not good for the hotel. :scared1:

I would have refused to move or expected some sort of compensation for my inconvenience.

And I would have recommended the compensation.

Thanks everyone! I feel better - I was starting to doubt myself about being so upset. When they told me that it was because of the cheerleaders I felt like my family was second to them and that's what really hit me. All guests should be treated equally as we all pay a lot of money to go there. I'll let you guys know what the response is from Disney (if any)

Hotel Guests do get 'walked' - otherwise, there wouldn't be a term for it, would there? :teeth:

Since the OP asked "what would you do", I would have first asked for my choice of equal hotels if I didn't like the one being offered. If there was no choice, I would have asked when I could be moved (back) to my resort of choice. If there would be no room for my entire stay, I would have been somewhat relieved that I would be at a hotel that was NOT full of cheerleaders, and made lemonade.

we had checked in to Carribbean Beach once and after one day decided it was too much walking (DW was 4 mo. prego) to main pool, bus stop and auxillary bus stops. We called front desk and were transferred to guest svcs. they upgraded us for free from CB to Wild. Lodge, courtyard view for the remaining 8 nights. seems like WDW wasn't very accomodating.

Any hotel can only be as accommodating as conditions allow. Now, the OP could have gotten on the phone with WDTC and asked what rooms were available that night, then negotiated using that information. But when a guest is 'walked', all the originating property has to do is locate equivalent accommodations.

And the reason? Well the cheerleaders needed to stay together and all the rooms were given to them.

If I were in that situation, as soon as I heard that I would be surrounded by cheerleaders, I would have been happy to move. I was never a cheerleader, but I was an 8th grader in Washington DC, and I was on Crew in college, and I *know* how boisterous groups of teenagers can be, despite their chaperones.

So I would have gone. However, I would have insisted they figure out some way to give me access to a nice pool, since the one at the resort they wanted to move you to was closed.

Seems like you were very lucky! :thumbsup2
