OKAY......first stupid me stupid me. It is really not that big a deal I guess, but something just keeps eating at me about my "stupid me" mess up and wondering if we are going to be disappointed. Here goes:

So we added on at AKV late last Aug. So in Sept. I booked 3 nights at AKV Kidani in a dedicated 2br. SAVANNA VIEW. These nights were eventually preceeded by 6 nights at BCV that we booked at the 7th month window in Dec. So this was booked, life was good, we were HAPPY.

THEN...Denise gets the idea of trying Vero Beach. (remember those threads???) and so I cancelled the AKV nights. We couldn't get Vero on points..we were on a waitlist for points so we booked on cash. SO I needed to free up the points from AKV to do this. UGH then about a week later I decided that we really didn't need to spend the money on the cash nights...blah blah blah. SO..I called to rebook and I COULD NOT GET MY SAVANNA VIEW ROOM. :scared:BOOHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :scared:

SO now I am on two waitlists. I am booked 7 nights at BCV and I have our last two nights at AKV Kidani in a standard view room. We are on waitlist for another night also in a standard view room which if it comes through ...gives us back our original 6 at BCV and 3 at AKV. THEN our other waitlist is for those three same standard room nights but waitlisted for SAVANNA VIEW.

SO....here is my what would you do??????

1. Keep what I have??? Standard view at AKV is better than maybe booking those same nights at another resort if available???

OR .......

2. Will we be so disappointed being at AKV and not having a Savanna View...so why stay there this time in a standard view??????

OR.....

Just try and stay at BCV those last two nights and NOT MOVE this trip. The past two summer trips we have split our stays. Which means knocking off one wailist for a new one at BCV.

We are currently in a 2 br dedicated but with the queen sofa setup.

OR.......

THEN..if BCV becomes available or is available when I call....I could still keep the waitlist for the last three nights at AKV Kidani

HELP!!!!! Forgot to add our trip is July 21st.

I think you need to stop worrying about perfect. There are wonderful pictures of standard view rooms at all the resorts. Were any standard rooms available at Jambo? You need to remember that you have decades of use ahead of you, and 3 nights in a less than perfect to you room isn't terrible. You are at WDW afterall, and many can't even do that.

Although you didn't like the room at All Star Music, didn't you and your family still create memories? Even the "boy am I glad we won't do that again" kind?

Standard at Jambo????

Eventhough you won't have a savanna view room, there are plenty of areas where you can view the savanna. Once you've seen a giraffe they pretty much all look the same.

Standard view at Jambo is pool view, and the pics posted are lovely.

Ditto, first take a breath & quit stressing! This is a vacation that you're planning, it's supposed to be fun and second you own DVC, there will be other vacations for you to plan if this one is indeed not as perfect as you would hope! I would make a firm choice sooner than later rather than end up with nothing, I think that once you get there it will be all good no matter where you end up!

P.S. Know that we expect a trip report upon your return! Have fun!

Take the standard view at AKV. The entire property is gorgeous, you'll love it none the less.

have a great trip.

I agree...take a chill piill. I guess I'd rather not move around all that much if I didn't have to. I'd probably just call and see if there was something anywhere on site that had consecutive days available. If not, I'd stick with what you have. I just wouldn't want the uncertainty, but that's me. I figure iI will get a chance to stay at all the DVC's sometime over the 50 years of the contracts, so no need to stress too much about an individual trip.

Oh we could have gotten all nights at AKV last Sept. and we could have gotten all nights at BCV too. HOWEVER.....we wanted to try AKV since we bought points there sight unseen. I just screwed up with making that change in Feb. for Vero. ugh

You know I often wonder why I make these summer trips so difficult to plan for. When we stayed at SSR for two Nov. trips......it was easy. We wanted to stay there so we did. Then we stayed at OKW in Jan. No stress really. I think the summer one are harder because I want to experience more than one resort I guess. :confused3 Who the heck:laughing: knows why I do what I do ..............
:rotfl:

Sometimes, I have to stop and tell myself sternly, Bea you're making yourself crazy! Breath in! Breath out!
You want the best for your family, that's why! It's all good! Enjoy your vacation.

Relax Denise.....you guys will be with my family. What more could you ask for??

We will all have a fantastic time together!! You guys can come over, squeeze into our studio, & we'll all look at the animals together. :crowded: :lmao:

OH I can't wait!!!!!!!!

After we made our initial visit to AKL to eat at Boma, we decided that there are plenty of viewing spots to look at the animals all over the lodge. We are taking a standard view room and we'll evaluate the view options from that point.

Maybe you know this, and I'm not trying to dwell on it, but usually you don't have to cancel to free up points to waitlist -- you can just tell them what to cancel if the waitlist comes through.

As for the Standard vs. Savanna view, it all depends on what you like. We are NOT view people at all, and so I love saving the points. I bought BWV for the standard option, not the BW view option! But some people (I've learned from these boards) absolutely must have the savanna view, or the MK view, or whatever. I have seen lots of threads, though, where people were disappointed with the particular view they got, and I'd hate to have paid more points and be disappointed.

Good luck. The waitlist fairy dusted me last week! pixiedust:

yeah well I gave up the points because in my mind WE were going to VERO no matter what...on cash or points. I didn't need to hold onto AKV at the time even with Vero booked on cash because it wasn't like I was thinking "well I will book for cash but hold onto AKV in case points never come up at VERO and we can always just stay at AKV". That was not my thinking.

It is crazy.......I NEVER DID THIS WHEN I BOOKED REGULAR RESORTS. I would pick a resort, we stayed and we went and all was good. LOL NOW for some reason..........I drive myself nuts with these summer trips. :scared1:

You know what is one way of looking at it. Try standard and then decide.....what to do for a future trip. We are not big on view either.....never even ask for views now that I think of it. I guess because the animals are there....it just makes more sense maybe. :confused3

is that guaranteed..ie they have no other option? I have standard at jambo and waited listed for value as I knw value is a chance of anything. I figured standard was parking lot.

In answer to OP's question. I stayed at AKV in value poolview and also savanna view, and personally, I would not spend the extra points. AKV has SO many viewing areas for the animals and me being spoiled with the OKW porch I found the savanna view not all that. The pool view I really enjoyed tho

I know you commented on my "Everchanging July 2009" thread, but I didn't realize that you and I are going to be at AKV at the same time! We have a 1 bedroom Concierge room booked for July 21-24. What a small world!

I'm not going to answer your original question because as you read in my other post, we have done the same as you this year. So, I am not going to give my opinion of what you should do at this time - LOL! We do like split stays though as we don't spend as many days at AK as we do MK and Epcot, so we like to spend at least 3-4 days at AKV to enjoy the resort and the park, whereas we like to spend longer stays at other resorts, especially Epcot area (hopefully we can try Bay Lake next year) as it's so much easier with our babes. We want to always stay at our beloved AKV, but we will more than likely always do a split stay with it as it's easiest for us at the moment.

I will say though that we have stayed at AKL several times now, and have not stayed Savannah view as our DD's favourite view is pool view. She loves to sit on balcony and watch the pool - we are hoping for a savannah view this time to see what it's like, but as others have mentioned, there are so many awesome viewing areas around the resort anyway, so saving those points might be worth it to you.

I wish you luck with your everchanging July vacation, Tiger :)
