What would you do to change OKW?

After seeing the response for my OKW waterslide poll I am wondering if there are any changes OKW owners would make????

If you could, what would you add, subtract or change about the presant OKW resort??

I already posted that I would like a waterslide. Not something like stormalong bay, but maybe something like the slide at Vero Beach.

What would you do??

Frank :D

We like OKW just like it is...... except maybe to make it a "non-smoking" DVC resort.

I think the only thing I would change at OKW would be make some of the studios have the queen bed and a sleep sofa (like they have at the other WDW DVC resorts.)

A studio saves us some points during the year and the bed/sofa arrangement would work better for us (only two of us). Otherwise, IMNSHO, OKW is just about perfect.

I wish they would put a non-stick frying pan in all of the kitches at ALL of the resorts. Seems like that's what we use the most when we cook (mostly breakfasts).

That is a fantastic point JillU-DVC, it's the little things like that is what this post is all about.

Keep'em coming folks

Frank

A monorail stop, more Grand Villas, 36" television(60" plasma would be even nicer) and non-stick pans.

I would settle for a monorail stop and a non-stick pan.

Only thing I wondered about is, since its built as a "condo" type resort with seperate buildings verses a hotel like the others, what about adding more buildings (phase II) and selling more there? I would think it would be a sure thing to sell. I just would wonder if they would build OKW style rooms or the newer(ie. smaller) rooms.

I agree with having a non-stick frying pan, that also means a plastic spatula. I remembered the SOS pad this trip and DH scoured the pan before cooking breakfast because it was not clean to start with.

Also I would like to see the Gurgling Suitcase enclosed. This would provide a less expensive and air-conditioned option for meals. We would wear a cover-up over our bathing suit and get a break from the hot sun when using the main pool.

Getting rid of the undeclared inventory at OKW. I am sick and tired of hearing about people renting our units using cash. I would like to see more people preparing the rooms so they would be available before 4 PM more often. I would like to see penalities for those that are not out by check out time. I would like to see a no jumping rule in the pools, tired of the little out of control kids jumping into the pools, of course they would have to be inforced. Maybe life guards are not such a bad deal to stop this practice. I would like to see Olivias improved to where it was when I joined. I would like to see better bus service or monorail would be better, more Disney like, who wants to ride a bus. Bust most of all I would like to see WDW go back to what Walt wanted a place where young children and their parents and grand parents have attractions for them. Right now the trend seems to be toward being an amusement park rather than a resort for families.

I asked my wife, my daughter and son-in-law, and my 8YO grandaughter. They all responded: NOTHING!

My 4YO grandaughter's answers were "when can we go?" and "can we please go?" but she didn't really seem to have an opinion about changes.

I like it just the way it is. I won't mind getting back some of the things we have lost, like placemats and napkins, but I can live with that because apparently people saw the need to take these home, why I don't know. I just bring my own rather than having our dues go up to replace them. I wonder if they got us the non-stick pans if they would disappear too. I would like to see those, but I'm going to do like someone else mentioned and pick one up for the trip anyway. As far as a slide, it doesn't matter either way to me. I have a brand new granddaughter and a six year old who would love a slide, but I'm happy without it because it is so peaceful. We have owned since 93 and have only stayed at HH one night, the rest of the time it has always been OKW. Somehow, I can't justify using more points for less space so we haven't tried the others, plus we like OKW so much it is truly like our second home. DH just said to me last night that maybe we should consider going home more than twice a year. I agree with him and maybe more points are in the future. Oh, there is one thing I would like, but it's not practical. I would love a screen door on the patio so that at night we could leave the door open to let the breeze in without the bugs, but I know it's not practical for a multitude of reasons.

Then you would see OKW owners blocked from using the Concierge Collection, Adventurer's Collection and Disney Collection (including Disney Cruise Line). Because OKW is a sold-out DVC resort, the vast mjority of cash rental inventory is generated when we turn over our DVC points to take a cruise or stay at a fancy Disney or non-Disney hotel. To get the funds to pay for our non-DVC stays, DVC points get turned into room nights which CRO rents to paying guests.

I wouldn't want to see the assessment to build a monorail line to OKW. It would probably be more than I spent to buy into OKW in the first place.

Absolutely nothing. I like it the way it is, low keyed. That is one of the things we loved when we purchased in 1995 and still love today.
You feel like you are getting away from it all.

More or at least later food. We loved OKW but went down to get something to eat with the kids this summer around, I want to say between 9:30 and 10:30, not late for teenagers that were at parks anyway. Couldn't find anything. Finally bought 5 cans of Chef boyardee and went back and nuked it. I guess now we would know better. Maybe Olivias just closed early that night?

Dear Santa,

This year I would like:

1) A slide

2) Studio with a king/sofa combination

3) A slide

4) An arcade room bigger trhen a phone booth and games newer then PONG.

5) A slide

6) Assigned parking space for each unit.

7) A slide

8) Revamp the "fitness" center into something we can be proud of.

Oh,did I mention a SLIDE.

To Horace--I am not talking about a monorail for OKW alone, I am talking about the mono-rail that was proposed but never built. As far as the cash customers--I am not talking about left over non-rented units, but that 4 % that is available from the get go. Any transportation system other than buses would be nice. Something with a little imagination would be fine but a monorail system that swings over our way would be fine with me also-again for all of WDW. At any rate many of these ideas are a little tough and cheek anyway. I just hope they don't close the boat service to DD on us in the future like they did at DL

That 4% is used for refurbishing also. I have never seen the accounting, but I would guess that a fairly large part of the 4% is refurbishment or other down time for a unit.

I would first vote for a water slide (I know you guys have already debated this...) and I guess I would ask for 1 lifeguard at the main pool. This way I could relax a bit more when at the pool. I like knowing someone with rescue training is standing by; I am a hysterical Mom of young kids!

Also I think later food would be cool. We always have our van but the food options are limited at OKW. Perhaps a more expanded menu at the snack bar, and later hours?

Also I would like to see the Gurgling Suitcase enclosed. This would provide a less expensive and air-conditioned option for meals. We would wear a cover-up over our bathing suit and get a break from the hot sun when using the main pool.

The Gurgling Suitcase is enclosed. It is the bar.
