what would you do re: Ding?

I purchased my family's flight tix thru SW about a month ago, at an astronomical price (should have checked these Dis Boards first!!). Today, a Ding came up, which would save me $1,165.00!!!!) Of course to take advantage of the Ding offer, I'd have to tweak our arrival/departure dates by one day (no biggie), and I'd have to change my hotel reservations (but there is availability). My problem is: we rarely travel, so exchanging for the Ding would not actually save me cash, but would give me $1100.00 in add'l flights this year. Maybe I'd use them, I think I'd have to!

My question is: would you go through the hassles of changing dates/reservations/ADRs, or should I just sit tight & wait for another more accomodating ding.

Also, I already asked SW for a refund of the difference in flights and they said no, sorry. :guilty: If they'd refund me, this would be a no brainer!

Just looking for another perspective from more seasoned travelers.

If you definetly plan to travel in the next year I'd say GO FOR IT! Just remember that although the air for trip #2 will be paid, accomodations, food and entertainment wont. JMHO

I would still do it.

You can call and ask for an extension even a refund ( but not through the regular line ) after the fact.

You can sell or have family use the credit and have them pay you. They even sell them on Craigeslist and E-bay.You might not get your full price but will get close to it.

The voucher\Credit is good for what a year? You never know what your family might want to do next year, and if you decide to go away, you would already have a big amount taken care of.

I agree (and have done it, WISH my savings were as great as YOURS)
I would do it in a heartbeat!

Just curious, when you called to ask about the refund, did you call the 1-800 number or the customer service number? Last week, I rebooked a flight with a DING fare, called the customer service number to ask for a refund, and they did it with no problem! Of course, my dates/flight numbers didn't change, so that may have had something to do with it. I would rebook with the cheaper fares no matter what. Then you at least have the option of traveling again with "free" airfare if they just give you the credit.

I called the 800 #...but the customer relations # closed at 5:00 today so I'm going to call them tomorrow. We'd have to be changing flights and days, so I'm not sure if I'll have any success, but thanks to you I'll try.

We're going to take advantage of the Ding, and who knows maybe next year we'll get another Disney trip!

I changed my flight to one day earlier and a different time. I was told that as long as I did it online there would be no charge. When you speak to someone you might want to ask if it makes a difference whether or not you make your changes online. Good Luck:)

There isn't a charge to change but the "refund" is usually given in the form of a credit not cash back. I changed my flight a few weeks ago, $14 was refunded to my cc and the other $286 given to me as a credit.

It doesn't hurt to try. Good luck! :)

What is the policy for cash refunds?? I got a $34 credit I will call and see if I can get it back on my CC.

I have no clue, I did it online expecting it all to me given as a credit. After I canceled it said that $14 of the $300 was refundable and the rest wasn't.

aww, it only means I paid WAAAAY too much in the beginning. We can't get a cash refund, but a credit, which is ok...I think we may try to go visit my brother in Miami at Thanksgiving. A trip we never would have taken if we hadn't been dinged! Thanks all for your helpful guidance!

I believe (could be wrong) that a credit will only be given between a web special moving to a ding and a refund will be given if the original fare was something other than a web special (ie fun fare etc). This was the explaination given to me when our flight price dropped last year - as I had originally bought on a web special and the new lower rate was also a web special the only option was a credit.

I did manage to sell the credit to a fellow DISr and all went well. Keep in mind, in order for the purchases to use your credit they will need your account # and password (again clarify this with SW) so will have access to any ressies you have o/s at the point you sell the credit.

I figured it out, the cash refund was for the Security Fee and Passenger Facility Charge
