We will arrive at MCO at 6:30pm at the end of August. We want to see Universal for 2 days before going to Disney.

I have booked RPR with a AAA rate for two nights ($450 total).

We can save $135 by staying at the Doubletree on our arrival night before switching to RPR (for the onsite perks). However, that would mean switching hotels every day for 3 days straight (Doubletree, RPR, Disney).

Bad idea? Good idea?

It will be 2 adults and an 8 year old Harry Potter NUT.

I agree that checking in and out is a pain. I'd probably just stick with the RPR.

We've done virtually what you're thinking about doing. For $50, I wouldn't switch. For $135, I'd stay at the Doubletree. They have a great breakfast buffet. I'd spend part of the $135 on a great breakfast, swim in their nice pool, and just relax before the crazy fun of Universal takes over.

We are doing the exact same thing....arrival day we are staying at Holiday Inn Universal Maingate and then checking out of HI and checking in at RPR before 7. We will then get our cards and head over to IOA for Harry Potter. We are staying two nights at RPR for 3 full days of perks!:cool1: Then we move over to POP Century for a week. So, I totally understand with not wanting to move but it seems like the savings are worth it, especially if you won't be able to take advantage of the onsite perks the first day.

if you decide to stay offsite the first night you arrive in Orlando, make sure you are up early the next morning so you can check into rph around 7ish.

you will be entitled to the early entry perk for onsite guests during your stay.
might as well take advantage of that the first day you go to the parks.

if the parks open at 9, then your early entry would be at 8:00.

we all do our vacations differently.
i just bite the bullet and check in when i start the uo vacation portion.
i prefer to be set up and organized for the early entry perk.

my priority isn't the money but the time i can have in the parks.

you are going late august.
crowds should not be an issue in the parks.
they will have shorter park hours in late august.

whatever you decide, have fun at the darkside!
enjoy your vacation no matter where you stay.

That is exactly what we are doing...we have to get two rooms at RPR:eek:

We are going mid-August. We are staying at the Buena Vista Suites (at Mousesavers rate) the day of arrival.

Then DVC or BC (haven't quite decided yet on that leg of the vacation:confused3 )

I personally could not stand dragging my bags that many times :rotfl: ....I'd prefer to check into RPR. Relax for the evening and enjoy their pool, have a good nights rest and then get up refreshed for early entry. It would be worth the money to me. Vacations to me are about fun and making the most of my holiday.

However, we are all different and have different budgets. Hope you have a lovely time whatever you decide to do. :thumbsup2
