What would you do at WDW WITHOUT the kids??

Most of the stuff other posters said but I'd like to add -I agree you should check out the F&W fest since you'll be there at that time. Dh and I had a free ticket and used it at Epcot to attend (which is why we were there w/out the kids )- we actually ended up staying an extra day and paying to get in again so we could go back. Also, remember since you aren't on the kids schedules, take time to soak in the atmosphere and relax. :cloud9:

We are heading down for a trip sans kids in two weeks and also did a solo trip last summer with two other couples who also left their kids at home ( we all have small enough kids that they don't protest us going to the mouse without them). These are some of the things we did last time:

Late dinner at California Grill - with several bottles of wine for the table
Jellyrolls
Started with a margarita in Mexico and drank our way around WS
Explored (aka: shopped!) DTD without interruption or a plan
Rode every coaster/thrill/adult ride, together and as many times as we wanted
Sat oustide the MK bakery and relaxed while eating breakfast and people watching rather than rushing over to Fantasyland!

Things we are doing this time:
Late dinner at Jiko
Adventurer's Club
Our only park day will be to Epcot and our other full day will be spent lounging at the pool with Pina Colodas (short 3 day trip)
Last seating for breakfast at Boma after sleeping in

This is something I dream about doing...just me and dh with no cares in the world. But, I am not sure we can NOT talk about the kids!:rotfl: I think we would do the same as others, get up late in our king size deluxe hotel room, sit by the pool having a drink or two, PI and the House of Blues, just relax and enjoy each others company. That is what I miss most in real life!

First off, my DH would never want to go to WDW without the kids. I would feel funny about it as well. IF we did go, I would definitely hit the Adventurer's Club and the Comedy club. We did this on our honeymoon and I miss not seeing it. We are going with my BIL, SIL and DN at the end of May and I'm thinking about switching up on babysitting one night so we can do it.:cool1:

You know when we went with out the kids I did feel funny, but we got over it.

I also felt the strange need to explain to others, we have kids, but they aren't here. Now before we sound like bad parents, my kids got to go once already in Jan and in 2 weeks we are going on a DCL trip so they aren't hurting for Disney fun (gosh I love AP's.)

A cast member we were talking with said he saw a couple with T shirts. They said "Got kids?????? Not this trip!"

I think we actually missed the kids more then they missed us because of where we were. Still it much a much needed break (1st time alone in 6 years) and we really enjoyed ourselves. In fact it made it so we enjoy other family trips more, because we got to do our stuff and not resent it.

We are doing this in 15 days. We are sooo excited, but my kids are bumbed. They went in May, November, and this past March--so I do not feel to bad. DH and I have not been on a trip by ourselves since 1998. We are doing the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. We are DVC members and have annual passes, but this will be our last trip until at least next May.

We are going Sept 27 - Oct 1 for our 10 year anniversary without kids! We are very excited. VERY!

Here is our tentative plan:

We may fly in on the 26th late (hopefully) and stay at a value room only for one night so we get a good head start. That is what I am hoping for, so this schedule takes that into account:

Thursday:

Check into AKL. Wander around lodge.

Go to Animal Kingdom. Wander aimlessly. Soak it in.

Go back to AKL and relax with a drink or two in our room. Watch animals from savannah view room. Enjoy each other's company.

8 PM Dinner at Jiko.

Friday 9/28/07

Eat breakfast at Mara.

Go to MGM. Haved FUN!

Lunch at Mama Melrose.

Back to AKL and relax some more.

Do MNSSHP 7 - 12.

Saturday 9/29/07

Mara for breakfast.

AK again. More wandering.

Back to AKL and relax some more. Lol

Dinner at Boma at 7 PM.

Sunday 9/29/07

Breakfast at Mara

Go to Epcot. Snack around Food and Wine Festival for lunch. Soak in World Showcase.

Dinner at 6:30 at Le Cellier.

Monday 10/1/07

Boma for breakfast.

We leave sometime today - hopefully late (heaven't gotten flights yet). If enough time, maybe do a little more Magic Kingdom or maybe DTD.

This sounds just like us (but I am not pregnant.) You guys deserve a trip yourselves. Enjoy and have a great time. :cool1:

I think it's great you're going without kids! My first ever trip was my honeymoon too. We just did everything! I don't think it really matters so much what you are doing the fact that it's just the 2 of you will make everything special. Here's a few ideas from me. Go get a few spa treatments at the GF. If you are staying at one of the resorts with the 2 seater not very speedy boats you could rent one for a half hour or so. We did this on our last trip and left the kids with the grandparents and it was really fun and relaxing. Try the high end restaurants you normally wouldn't go with the kids. Don't forget to leave lots of hotel room time too ;) :lmao: ! You can't pass up the uninterruptable possibilities!! No making sure the kids are asleep and the door is locked:woohoo: .

DH & I went in March for the first time without the kids since our honeymoon. We had a great time. The best part was the tours. We did the Epcot Segway tour and the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. They were both wonderful!!!!!

My mother and I went adults only this past December. It was great!!! I felt guilty at first but that passed. We did Christmas around the World. Did not eat at a single Character meal!! Candelight Processional...absolutely beautiful and moving (esp with Steven Curtis Chapman narrating). We'd grab a snack and sit somewhere and wait for the parade and people watch. We didn't even ride that many rides actually.

Oh...don't forget...SHOP UNTIL WE DROPPED!!!!!

Thanks for all of the suggestions! Here are some of the things we've decided to do so far:

Food & Wine Festival (oh yeah!!!)
Keys to the Kingdom
Fantasmic dinner package
Segway tour at Epcot (maybe)
California Grill watching fireworks over MK
Narcosees (had to smell it every nite when we stayed at the GF, haha)

Still not sure what/where we'll go at PI. We've booked POR, so the boat ride over there will be nice.

Please keep the "grown up" WDW suggestions coming if you have a favorite!!!

Thanks!
Sonya

Here is what we are doing in Oct for our adult only trip:

Cali Grill and WISHES with llots of Disfriends!!

Segway tour

F&WF

and...PLEASURE ISLAND!!

and...the best part is not what you are going to DO but what you don't HAVE to do!!

Dumbo, TTA, Stitch, wait an hour for a parade, swimming during park hours, character meals...etc

Or maybe I'd be in Aruba instead.

That was my first thought! We enjoy our one night without kids at Disney, but I think for a whole kid-free trip, I'd be on a foreign beach somewhere. Preferrably somewhere all-inclusive, where a fruity umbrella drink doesn't cost $10 and where beaches are for swimming, not just for looks. :rotfl:

A Food & Wine Festival trip without kids would be fun; we never have time to fit in the wine pairings and Party for the Senses on family trips, and we don't indulge in as much of the wine part of the festivities as we would if we were kid-free. Pleasure Island doesn't really do anything for us, mainly because none of the clubs are our style/taste in music. On our adult night on our upcoming trip, we're planning on hitting the BoardWalk area nightlife, cause we've never done that before and because DH really wants to have dinner at the ESPN Club.

My husband and I head to DW twice a year with kids and twice without. On our "adults only" trip, we often make reservations at restaurants we normally wouldn't take the kids, they are NOT the best eatters. Its just nice to relax and enjoy a good meal and not have to cut up anyone's food.

Years ago when our daughter, who is now 7yo, was little , when it was time for the "adults only" trip, she came up with the idea that DW must only be open for mommy's and daddy's every once in a while ... how funny it was to hear her rationale, and we never corrected her. Now when we go away, she says"it this that mom's and dad's only weekend again?" She cannot wait until there is a kids only one she can go to!:rotfl2: Someday she will hear the truth but for now we jsut go along with it! Don;t worry they make out much better wen we go without them, my husband calls them guilt gifts that I tend to spend way too much money on!:woohoo:

Oh no, I haven't even thought about the "guilt gifts"!!! haha We'll have 3 little girls doing the happy dance when we return, haha!:dance3:

You've gotten tons of great suggestions and it looks like you're going to have a great time!! If I might add a few more from our 11th anniversary trip 2 years ago:woohoo: .....

Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer....! DH and I never did until we were there alone and we had so much fun. The best was doing the stunts at the Backlot Tour. We were soaked afterwards but the picture we had a CM take is priceless.

We really enjoyed Adventurer's Club. We don't drink but we laughed all night long and then danced at a couple of dance clubs.

And last, don't eliminate naptime just because there aren't sleepy kids!!:rolleyes1 Especially when you've spent all morning at the Magic Kingdom in pouring rain and you're both completely soaked and running through puddles. A nice hot afternoon shower hits the spot!!! And that's all I'll say about that.

Plus DH and I actually had time to go shopping when it was just the 2 of us, and I bought way more then I normally do when the kids are with us. Yes they got guilt gifts, even some of their friends who's parents helped out (to and from school) and aunt and uncle who watched them got gifts too.

Monorail drink-a-thon? I've heard of "drinking around the world" at Epcot, but not around the monorail? haha. That might be more our style...having a drink at each of the classy WDW Resort lounges, haha.:woohoo:
