I was rummaging around in the garage yesterday and came across this old wooden sign that brings back SUCH wonderful childhood memories for me..
You see - I live in the same house I grew up in - and there used to be this lovely older childless couple that lived halfway up the hill.. They were great friends with my parents and treated me like their own daughter.. Eventually they moved to Florida (both are deceased now) but before they left they gave my Mom the wooden sign that was next to their front door..
It's just a piece of wood - painted white - with black lettering that reads, "Thistledome" - meaning - "This-will-do-me".. The black lettering is still in remarkably good shape (we're talking all the way back to the late 50's) but most of the white has faded away..
I was thinking about taking it up to our place at the lake, but would like to paint "something" on it in the background.. Any ideas?
Pine trees? A lake scene? Flowers? Butterflies?
I can't believe I found that thing and it sure makes me miss those folks.....
