Pirates is a classic Disney ride, and is even more special if they've seen the PotC movies. I think space mountain may have a 44" height requirement, which would be a problem. Unless both of your kids are into thrill rides, I would avoid splash/space first... they can scare some small children and that would be a BAD way to start your vacation.

I would say IASW or Peter Pan. You may want to go to a classic ride that doesn't have all the newest technology and build up to the more advanced rides. IASW may pale in comparison if you went after splash mountain.

Bingo. As a plus, you can all sit in the same row in Small World, and maybe grab fastpasses for Peter Pan if there's a line going. I really think it's the best introduction to Disney magic.

I voted for Pirates, but Splash Mt would be a close second. My pick for a first-MK attraction would be Mickey's Phillarmagic.

my vote goes for one that isn't listed. Mickey's Philharmagic. it's an attraction that really sets the mood and theme of what the park is all about. It's a good way to start off your first trip ever.

this would be my vote too... however, our traditional first ride is always Peter Pan's Flight. That started when my oldest daughter was little, and she loved loved loved Peter Pan. Its just become a tradition... 5 kids later we are still always riding Peter Pan first

I voted for splash because you can all sit in the same car and its a lot of fun!!! I would of voted for space but then one person wouldn't be in the same car because it only holds 3!!

Given the ages of your children, my first thought was Its a Small World. I think it is the perfect family ride to share as a first ride ever. But it really depends on your children. If they are both fearless, I wouldn't hesistate to go on Splash mountain. However, I personally think the huge drop at Splash might be a little too intense for a 4-year-old, especially if she's never been on a ride with a huge drop like that before. From your poll, I chose Pirates because its an exciting ride but its not scary, and there's no drops. Its definitely something your whole family will love. My votes are for either IASW or Pirates :)

I voted for Pirates for a few reasons.
1. It was the last ride Walt actually particpated in design.
2. It has a boat, great music, lot's of characters, and to me, exemplifies Disney at it's best.
3. I would guess your family at least knows about the POC movies
It was also one of the first rides I went on in Disneyland so long ago I cant remember the year!!!!
In reality, any of your list will make a memorable impression, especially Splash which will most likely leave you pretty wet too!pirate:

Pirates. The best for the whole family.

If you only had your ten year old, then maybe Splash.

If it were me, I'd do the Jungle Cruise, because that's my favorite ride in the World, but the humor might not click with a 4-year-old.

Dumbo

My DD is three and when you ask her what she wants to ride she says DUMBO FIRST HEHEHEHEHEHE!!

The first ride we get on was not listed either. We always board the train first and then it's off to Fantasyland.

I voted for Buzz, as this has always been our first family ride of every trip to Disney (including our VERy FIRST family ride EVER!!!)!! So, my vote was purely personal! I agree with some of the other posters, that it might be hard to get all the way to splash mountain without stopping at something else along the way!! HAVE FUN making your own family traditions!! :goodvibes

I voted Splash Mountain but I would probably do Fantasyland first with It's a Small World. It starts the magical feeling of Disney right off.

I think your dd is too short for Space Mountain. I think you have to be 44 inches to ride.
