Just back from a trip with my boy. Some tips from this board that made our trip so much better....

1. Get to the turnstiles early. They opened them about 20 minutes early each day we were there.

2. Hit Forbidden Journey at opening. Go through Suess Landing and go to the left of Green Eggs and Ham. We got on line with a 10 minute wait, by the time we finished riding it was at 60 minutes already!

3. Buy your butterbeer inside Hogs Head, not from the carts. The line was always shorter, and the wait was air conditioned. I initially forgot this one, and got in the cart line. After about 5 minutes I saw Hogs Head and remembered, got out of that line and inside. There was a short line inside, we got our butterbeer, and when we went back out, the people who had been in front of us in line were still only half way up.

4. Single rider line. Took our wait time from 60 minutes to practically walk on for spider man, mummy, Men in Black, and Forbidden Journey. SO worth it.

5. Review the menus in the sticky, and make a mental note of places that serve stuff you like, or you will end up eating where ever you happen to be when you're hungry, and way too many burgers.

6. Walking between the parks, use the short way in front of Hard Rock and NBA restaurants instead of going through all of Citywalk each time.

......and what didn't work.

1. Don't buy ponchos at the dollar store. They are garbage. They are really thin, they rip when you put them on, and the "hood' part won't stay up. Buy a real poncho - maybe at home instead of the parks, but a real one. Penny wise, pound foolish.

2. Ignore the long lists of what you should carry in the parks with you unless you have young children and no choice, or just LOVE waiting in line to use lockers. I ended up carrying my tickets, camera, and cash. Period. All in pockets.

Thanks to all of you who have shared your experiences. You made our trip better!!

Thanks for the info.... I really have to look into the shorter route from IOA to Universal. It was so hot going the long way on our last trip in August.

I never understood the need to carry a backpack or a large bag to the parks. I wear cargo shorts with lots of pockets and a small camera case that clips to my belt - that's it. I buy water as needed, snack when hungry, eat a meal here and there. I know not everyone can do this, but by all means try if you can - makes park touring so much easier.

I love all these tips even as a seasoned IOA visitor. I'm going to be riding a lot more thrill rides this time and will hopefully be able to keep the majority of my items in a locker most of the day. If anyone has paid for a locker do you suggest the ones at the front of the park or in Harry Potter (where I will mostly be)? Mostly I will need to store my camera as I have a bigger one than I'm comfortable taking on any rides (except hopefully FJ).

I would also like to add that if you have more than one day to do Islands of Adventure, do Harry Potter at opening one day and then hit the other rides at opening the next. We were able to walk on Spiderman, then went to Suess Landing with no waits, then went on the water rides for very short waits the first few hours while everyone was at the WWoHP.

I would wait until evening to do HP...it's so much more mystical at night...plus the lines are short.

I so agree and posted my thanks a couple of weeks ago too! Especially about the tip to buy butterbeer inside the nice, cool pub vs stand in the hot line outside!!

I don't either but I know with my 5.5 year old that she will need hand wipes, bandaids and maybe extra shorts and her waterbottle. When I don't carry a bag, that is when she needs stuff most. :lmao: I'm only bringing a small baggallini sling backpack with me. I could never do a full size one.
