What will be easier to book at 11 months, Riviera Studio Standard or CCV Studio?

We are doing our research on Riv and CCV and are fully aware of the resale restrictions. But we are wondering, will Rivieras Standard view Studios be easier to book than CCV's studios?

I booked a one-night stay at Riviera for December exactly 11 months out and had to get a preferred room as all standard views were gone. I have no experience booking at CCV. I will say that I'm not sure the full inventory is available to book at Riviera yet so maybe that's why and also it was Christmas time so that may have been a factor. Our upcoming April trip was booked as a welcome home trip and we did get a Standard room but I didn't book it myself and it wasn't booked at 11 months.

right now -- I would think RIV would be easier to get, but that is b/c more rooms have been declared than there are points sold. Aside from that -- if you are going to predict, then I would find out how many rooms there are of each room type you're looking at and then figure out what percentage of points are needed for those rooms compared to the total number of points in the resort. Whichever has the higher percentage should be easier to book.

If you think you might be going the same week every year -- then getting a fixed week at either resort might be a good option to look at.

No one knows at this point. Estimate is 2 Preferred for every Standard, but that's still spitballing.

I believe it's turned out that the standard view rooms at Riviera are the ones with the fireworks views? I think that will make them even more popular than what they would otherwise be with just by being lower points.

I do think it's too bad that they did a split of studios at CCV with tub and shower only categories. It would probably be easier to book if they hadn't. Since Riviera doesn't have that I'm guessing CCV will be the only DVC to end up with that.

What does all my speculating mean? As I tend to suggest never counting on the cheapest category I'd definitely state that again and I think Riviera will be a "nice if you can get standard" DVC. CCV has difficulties at times too so I wouldn't count on it either. However we won't have really good read on Riviera until it's sold out.

Are those the 2 definite resorts for you? DVC does sell points at all resort but that isn't always stated or known by people new to DVC. There might be better options if lower point studios are what you are looking for.

some of the preferred rooms can see Epcot and DHS fireworks. My preferred view room as on the west side and looked out on the skyliner station. Tower of Terror a little towards the left and Epcot could be seen to my right. I had no problems seeing the kites flying around at night.

I posted in another thread the room count for the Riviera studios. I believe that it was 33% standard views.

As far as which are difficult, I can say from experience that CCV studios are extremely difficult to book in December. Summer is not too difficult though. There are slightly more CCV studios than Riv standard studios. At least with the Riv you would be able to book a preferred studio if need by. At CCV you’d be SOL.

CCV has developed an 11-month issue (meaning rooms being booked full right at, or even before 8 a.m. at 11 months out) for studios, much more so during the fall season than otherwise. As that resort is now close to sell-out, we are likely looking at an indication of what the future holds, e.g., the ability to get a studio may not get much harder than it is right now, although that is still a possibility. CCV's studio problem is caused by a combination of factors: (a) a too high per point sale price; (b) a lot of extra points to sell created by having the cabins, many of which are being sold to those buying enough points to get mainly studios; and (c) a too low minimum point purchase requirement for new purchasers, now 100 but earlier it was only 75 .

Riviera is still in the earlier stages of sales and has already developed a 11-month issue for the Tower studios, not just for the high demand season in Fall but also other times of year, and one for the standard studios mostly during the fall season and on occasion at other times of year. The cause of the problem at CCV is not the existence of a lot of cabins whose points are being sold to studio buyers, but instead a high sales price coupled with a high per night point cost (significantly greater than CCV), a too low minimum buy-in for new purchasers, starting earlier at 75 points and now 100, and an initial high per point maintenance fee that helps in discouraging new purchasers from buying large numbers of points. We do not know how many standard studios there actually are so that renders difficult a prediction for the future. However, what we do know is that the 11-month issue that has developed for Riviera Tower and standard studios has started earlier in the process of selling the resort than it did for CCV, a factor that indicates it may end up worse than CCV, but preferred Riviera studios currently do not have an 11-month issue.

I have had good luck getting SV at RIV at the 11 month mark in November, and 9 month out for August and September.

I even have been monitoring things lately and those have been there most days through 9 to 11 am.

Now it’s not sold out so we have no idea what will happen, but I think for at least 3 years or so, it will prove easier than CCV.

I also had no problem booking 2 standard studios during the fall at 11 months for Riviera.

I also had no issue booking a standard view studio at Riviera at 11 months for Thanksgiving week.
