What was your HS 20 year reunion like?

Mine is this weekend and I now feel like I don't want to go. Fri. it is a mixer at a bar (we're not going) and Sat. it is at an amusement park. There is supposed to be a potluck there but nothing is planned firmly. DH and I both graduated the same year and he wants to go. But, most of the people we knew are not coming b/c they live far away and/or the reunion is so disorganized and casual. Did you go to yours?

I helped organize ours and it was a huge success. We did a mixer the night before and that's where everyone had the most fun. It was casual and light. We all had a bunch of laughs. The actual banquet was more stiff and formal, but still really nice. We're beginning to plan our 25th and we're thinking of encouraging people to dress more casually for the banquet, hoping to recapture that sense of fun from the mixer.

I really like the sound of yours!

Mine was last year and so much fun! It was a reception and then gathering at the bar after. There have been a few smaller meets after too. We all pretty much keep up to date now on Facebook.

went to my 10 & 20, had hubby's 25th on 4th of july weekend. My years were kind of screwed up, they had a 5 yr reunion at 6 yrs. No one went, the committee lost money. I went to the 10th and I was a week overdue with my last son, not a good time. 20th was great, it was nice seeing everyone. Ours were weekend long though (both his and mine). We had a mixer at a local restaurant on Friday night, dinner & drinks at a hall on Saturday and a cookout at a park on Sunday. I think we paid $80 for the both of us and this covered the Saturday & Sunday festivities, Friday was almost optional but you had to pay for yourself that night. Because his was over the holiday weekend, most people didn't show on Saturday, but did on Friday. It worked for them. We were able to and it allowed him to see a lot of classmates and spend time with them individually.

How are you going to catch up with anyone at an amusement park? I would think this would make it quite hard. Enjoy yourself though. It's always fun catching up with people.

i just wish more people had responded that they were coming. Only 30 for Friday and 20 for Sat. This is out of a class of 300 some. Of course, I'm sure some will just show up.

I helped organize mine as well- it was last year. We live in a small area and only had about 50 in our graduating class. We held it on Homecoming weekend in our town so there are events that go on for that too. The first night we got together (without spouses) at a restaurant and had a meal and drinks. The next night we got together for drinks again except this time we invited our old teachers. This was a great laugh!!! Then we all went to the Homecoming dance. It was fun, I just wish there had been more that attended.

I just got back from my 30th...it was a blast! I'd gone to school with some kids starting in 4th grade.

I went to 10 and 20 too...again, GREAT times. I think before each, though, I had second thoughts. But I was always glad I went.

Some of my best friends couldn't make it, but that meant I connected with people from a broader reach than just spending all my times with best friends. My best friend from junior high was there, though!

We helped plan DH's 20th reunion. Small town, graduating class of 68. We opted to do it in September. Thinking the busy summer months just don't work. We picked a weekend with a home football game. Friday night we had a big banner set up in the parking lot and met 1/2 hour before the game. Sat together and really had fun. After the game, drinks and appetizers at a local hang out. Saturday was a catered dinner, music, and dancing.

Friday was a cash bar. Committee supplied the appetizers. Saturday the cost was 19.86 per person (yes, we graduated in 1986). I can't tell you how many people came up to us telling us it was the best reunion. Well worth the time and effort we put it.

Oh, we also did a raffle. Every classmate left with a gift of some sort. The local businesses all donated gift cards, rounds of golf, shirts, ect. We had 42 classmates attend, plus their spouses. Great turn out! Lisa

I HATED my 20th and I'm not going back.

It was in a hotel ballroom and it was $125 per person. Husband would not go, so I went with my gang of people from HS that still keep in touch. There are about 12 of us total.

It was bad. The food was bad, the music was bad, several people decided to dress up as hookers (no really, this was their stylish way of dressing), and the photos we had to pay for turned out really crappy. Two people at our table didn't even get food served.

My friends and I decided we wouldn't go again but at milestone years, we'd get together and have our own thing. We get together anyway once and again, so this is better.

Frankly, outside of my circle of friends, I didn't remember anyone else and felt stupid. Most of the time, I was found saying, "Oh, how are you?" and the classic, "Oh, my goodness, of course I remember that in class!" when, of course, I had no idea who they were or what they were talking about.

The bonus part happened when the hotel security came in and told us to close up. It was about 9:45 pm and they said that the hotel guests below the ballroom (the ballroom was on the top floor of the hotel tower) were complaining and we had to leave. The class president and total A-Type personality Alpha female who ran the reunions did get a huge refund, but she kept that for future reunions. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Our class is so disorganized and screwed up.lol. We didn't have a 5 year reunion and our 10 year reunion didn't happen until the 11th year.:cool1:So, I haven't been to and wasn't interested in going to any of my HS reunions.

Now our 25th is coming up(2011). I was contacted by a former classmate on Facebook. And they have set up a group for all my classmates to join and give their opinions and ideas. I think it's great. The consensus has been to keep things very casual and inexpensive. In the hopes of getting a bigger turnout. The plans so far are to have a small mixer on Friday night for classmates and significant others. The big shindig will be Sat night...very casual with a band, food(probably burgers and dogs) and drinks(beer and wine). Then Sun will be a potluck picnic for the families. Plus, there is talk of doing a "Hometown sights" bus tour for all the out of town visitors. Everybody is pitching in and a lot of people are offering up any services that they can. So, it should be a fun time and I am having a great time reconnecting with old friends.

I graduated 27 years ago, and haven't gone to a reunion yet. I also get invited to the class of 83 reunions, and I haven't gone to those either.

I figured I've stayed in touch with the classmates I wanted to keep in touch with, and the rest, well...

I know, it's not a good attitude.

My sister told me that facebook was really ruining reunions b/c everybody catches up on there and then doesn't have anything new to say at reunions.

It's a minority opinion -but I hated mine.

There was no 5th

10th - I wasn't where I wanted to be in life and so didn't go. Friends that went said it was a big brag fest and all about showing off.

15th - was 9 mo pregnant so skipped the reunion, I wasn't going to buy pricey dinner tickets knowing I could go into labor at any time around then. Same friends went again and said it was a blast. Everyone had relaxed and it was fun catching up.

20th - I went. It was painful and ackward. Very very cliquey. Same friends attended also and agreed that it was not what they were hoping for after having a good time at the 15th.

25th - skipped. And I live in the same town I grew up in so I don't have the travel excuse. don't regret the decision a bit.

My 20th is Labor Day weekend.

I am skipping it though.

I am 'friends' with some of FB now but I never really was in HS/JrHS.

I think it is around $70 for a ticket & well I'd rather throw that $70 in my vacation fund. I would need to buy a dress or some nice clothes since I don't have any, so that would be $100 or so depending on what I can find. Again that money I'd rather throw in the Disney fund 2012 trip.

I would have to either switch my day at work (I work on a Sunday) as the reunion is on a Saturday at the Golf Club in my home town. So I'd be so tired from waking up at 5:30 (I am a RN), be on my feet all day, come home, shower & then drive the hour to the reunion & then the hour back (I can stay at my parents house but that is more work sometimes).

If I take the day off I won't get paid since I don't get benefits so I'd not only be losing out on my one day a week of work, I'd be adding clothes/shoes/ticket to that.

Sunday is a family day picnic but I wouldn't go as I wouldn't really mingle with half the class & the dirty pond they are having it at.

Plus on Sunday my son's friend is having a Labor Day party camping sleep over that is 1/2 mile from my house & honestly I'd rather go to that right now since my kids would have fun with all their friends.

Maybe the 30th I will go to as my kids will be older.

I have kept in touch with the few people from HS that I care to know. I left the rest behind me for a reason... :lmao:

Wouldn't have gone to it if you paid me -- HS was a living hell.

The hilarious part is that I got called at work by the person coordinating it, who was never really what you might call a close friend. He actually TOLD me that "We're not inviting everyone -- only the good people."

When I told him that we happened to be taking the kids to WDW the following day, he suggested I detour by over 800 miles to attend before WDW. (Nah, not really possible from the air.) Some people just don't get it.

We are going to my dh's the last weekend in September. That friday night everyone is going to the homecoming football game and then the bar afterwards. Then on Saturday is the formal ($100 a couple) then on that Sunday everyone is doing a picnic for the family at a park. My dh keeps in touch with I swear EVERYONE he went to school with on FB.. Everyone is very excited for this. Me on the other hand.... :rolleyes1 I really hate going places that I don't know people and I hate cigarette smoke. :rotfl2: But i'll play good wife and go and then he owes me a trip to disney world. Fair exchange imo.. :teeth:

I just went to my 20th three weeks ago. It was very fun! We had about 200 people there. Our class was 350. There were only 50 people at our 10th!

The committee kept it in our small town so it only cost $35. We didn't have a sit down dinner. It was a buffet with lots of different finger foods. I actually really liked that because who wants to sit down and eat.

3Leafs - I hate cigarette smoke also. I guess people in my class who smoke decided to be courteous and smoke outside. No cigarette smoke at all!!
