To me, even meeting a president, no matter what party, would be an event. I'm not a fan of Obama's politics, but I would jump at the chance to meet him. In that situation, you're not Republican or Democrat, but you're an American.

I never meet Reagan as a person he did seem like a nice man.

I agree. Someone voiced their opinion -which I'm sure some of us might disagree or perhaps agree with. Why should everything be neutral or politically correct? We are all different -I think that's a beautiful thing. As long as no one is directly attacking someone or their views. I understand some people can get carried away -but that isn't what happened here.

Personally, I think Reagan was a great motivator and a provided the country with a positive attitude when we needed it. I think the AIDS statement is basically true and also feel he dropped the ball when it came to gun control -which I believe he later agreed he wished he had done more. But no President has ever made everyone happy.

We named our son Reagan, after Ronald, but we were also thinking of naming him Carter....

My labor with Reagan started on the anniversary of President Reagan's death, so it kinda sealed the deal with his name.

We have worked hard to keep the DISboards a place where people can discuss any topic as long as it's not illegal or profane, and as long as the participants can behave respectfully. Unfortunately, politics and religion often seem to bring out the worst behavior in people. Even normally polite posters find these topics pushing their hot buttons, and frequently lose their cool.

This past election season has been especially bad, and the rudeness and sniping between various groups has alienated posters and exhausted our moderators.

As a result, we are announcing a new policy on the DISboards, effective immediately: POLITICS AND RELIGION are no longer acceptable topics of discussion here.

This also will extend to signatures: no political statements, logos, or slogans are permitted in signatures.

Posts and threads of a political or religious nature will be locked or deleted, and are not to be restarted. We will also be updating our site guidelines to reflect this policy.

There are many sites on the web that welcome discussion and debate of a political or religious nature, but we feel that removing these topics from the DISboards altogether is in the best interests of our members. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

I don't think any "rules" were violated -- Ronald Reagan (who has been out of elected office for more than a generation) is a historical figure.

Not to discuss such figures is turning your back on American history.

The recent "rules" concerning political leanings was, IMO, a result of a lot of users using these forums to get their political messages (on both sides, as they related to the '08 elections) across (and in doing so, I saw some outrageously large "signatures" out there that took-up more than enough bandwidth). More bandwidth equals higher operating costs for boards like these.

As for the podcast, I totally disagree with Pete. I came of age during the Reagan era, and while some presidents have come close, we'll never see another quite like him, again.

Enough said.

Ronald Reagan has to go down as one of the best we have had. Yes he did a few thing that some group may not. He also diid alot of thing that we all should be glad about. He is one of the reasons that I'm glad to be an American and live in this free land. I also have to thank all of the people who give of them self and serve in the armfores.

I totally agree...I find it a bit extreme to not allow politics to be at least touched on in polite conversation....but then again, I don't have to moderate here and deal with a lot of the fighting!
