Let me just say first that I had my first trip to DLR ever from 1/22 to 1/28. Last thursday and friday did not seem that busy even though DCA was having a Mighty Ducks day at DCA, it didnt seem that bad for a Friday with the event. Saturday and Sunday wasnt that bad because of the rain.
So Monday, being our last park day, turned out to be way out of control with the crowds. Was there something going on in SoCal that I wasnt aware of? Was there some kind of school closure? I asked this same question on Facebook but all I got was a bunch of trolls giving me stupid and snarky replies. I should have posted here first since I know there are polite and civilized members here.

thank you

I was there roughly the same time and yeah! Utter insanity on 1/27! I think some people speculated it was a convention or maybe more than one. NAMM was in Anaheim, for one.

Probably has more to do with the abnormally low attendance you enjoyed Thursday - Sunday. Unlike WDW, rain and cold will chase away the crowds at DLR. And attendance was abnormally low on Thursday and Friday, for whatever reason. It was discussed on another message forum that Indy had a 20-minute wait most of the day Friday, which is completely unheard of. But the locals did show up in the evening.

My kids had Monday off from school since it was the start of a new semester (yes, California is weird). We didn't go to Disney, but I could see lots of people doing so if they thought "hey, it's a random Monday and I bet not a lot of people have it off so let's go".

So unless Monday was a day off from school, locals just take their kids out of school to go to DL?
Yes, that appears to be the case over the past few years. Tickets vary from $104 per person on some of the lowest priced weekdays to $206 on the highest priced days. Factor in the kids ticket deal, valid only on weekdays (without upgrading), and this drives attendance to weekdays in the "off season." I think some people have clearly decided that saving $100+ per person per day is worth going on a weekday.

I am not agreeing or condoning the attendance patterns, but it is what it is. I strategically went last year on July 4th weekend when passes were blocked, ticket deals were restricted, and single day tickets were at their highest price. Crowds were bliss. I always buy multi day tickets anyway, so the price is the same no matter what day of the year I go.

I'm going Thanksgiving this year largely because the crowds should be better than other times during the holiday season. Don't get me wrong, it's still crowded even on less crowded days, but it's more manageably crowded.

FreshBaked did a DCA report on Monday 1/27 and return times seemed long for most attractions. I agree the ticket prices and the kids ticket special encourage weekday attendance in the offseason.
