What was the inspiration behind your username?

Hiya,

Just read all this thread, very enlightening

I chose my username when I was 14 and first ventured onto the Internet. Gaspode is a talking dog in the Discworld series of books by Terry Pratchett. He was (and still is!) my favourite character at the time and I needed a chat room handle so went for it. He's stuck around with me since then and a lot of the people I meet in RL who I first spoke to on the net just call me Gaspode, so now its a nickname LOL and I post as it wherever I roam.

PS. I pronounce it with an é and have always maintained that is the way to say it. Then I went to a lecture by the author and found its not LOL. So now I just say the é makes it the feminine version and therefore differentiates me from the dog himself

To be perfectly honest with you, I really can't remember where I got it (memory like a goldfish's ) I've had it hidden away on my computer for months now, and just after I registered I found it again and thought I'd use it

Direct Current Entity - I'm a bit of an advanced physics lover and I came to create this username (for EVERYTHING I do that is internet based nowerdays) at a time when the concept was being brushed around that every physical occurance was manifested as a result of an entity influencing it. The 2000 was merely the year the screen name was created. Typically I go under the alias of Simba Cub as I'm a leo, a fan of the lion king, still quite childish as far as my outlook on life goes and... well... it's kinda stuck as a character with an identicle character - except in speach

So science.

Don't wish to hijack the thread but its rare around here to find someone who knows what I am jibbering on about when I talk about Discworld! (Guess its cos' he is bigger here in Britain). Anyways, just wanted to say I've been reading PTerry since I was 10 and I plan to convert the world to Discworld fans so at least you will avoid all of that

My DS (age 4) got the nickname Poohkin when he was a baby. It came from a blending of Pooh (what daddy called him) and pumpkin (what I called him). It just stuck.

Piglet is a reference to my DD (age 3). She has always adored Piglet. If you ask her watch she wants to watch she says
" How about... Piglets Big Movie".

They are quite a pair.

My username is actually a nickname from my friends. I used to love jellybeans, until my friends gave me one that about made me gag, and now I won't touch them. One of my guy friends started calling me jellybean, and it just stuck with me and my friends. I chose the different spelling to be unique.

Being the least imaginative person with short term memory loss that you've ever met, when I first started posting to another board -- I just used my name ! When I started here on the DIS (I lurked a lot more than I posted !) I was afraid I'd forget "who" I was where, s-o-o I just stuck with it. I'm always so impressed with others' creativity !

I'm just like LeslieM - For me, the easier the name, the better.

I can't forget the name Sandy V. 'cause that's me! And I would probably have trouble remembering a nickname with all of the other things I need to think about!
