When I was 11 my Mom let me make dinner. I had to plan it, go to the store (with her) and then prepare it by using my Junior cookbook.

It was cube steak and mashed potatoes. :)

What was the first meal you cooked?

My mother went back to work when I was 13 or 14 and I started cooking then. My first dinner was chicken cutlets, tater tots and corn

actually that's not true, I was making eggs and a few other things at 9.

i think i was in brownies (so around 3rd grade) and we did a unit on preparing a meal. i recall we made spagetti (with a quick and simple homemade sauce-don't remember if there was jarred available back then), a green salad and garlic bread. for dessert a homemade cake (recall we had to start over on this-one of the brownies leaned over too far and caught her hair in the electric mixer beaters :earseek: ).

I tried to make salad for my Dad and sister while my Mom was out of town and called her best friend to ask what the "recipie" was for salad. I still get teased about that.

I don't know. I just started cooking one day. Don't remember what I made. Probably some kind of pasta and chicken. :confused3

I guess I was about 10 or 12. My mother had gone back to work, and she used to leave me instructions on what to do. It's funny, but although there must have been many times, there's only one I can remember. I came home and read the note about cooking pork chops. The pan to cook them in was there, but no meat. I looked around for a long time without finding them and then happened to look down at the cat's dish. There was the package of pork chops, with a hole chewed in it. I can't remember what I did either--did I go ahead and cook them or throw them out? I wonder if Mom remembers....

There was also a time when the same cat (Fritz!) ran away with an uncooked Crescent Roll. I'd had them all rolled up on a cookie sheet and was waiting to put them in the over. It's a wonder he didn't get sick!

I remember it well because it was a few months ago . I made my MIL's recipe for roasted chicken fingers.

My grandmother walked me through my first dinner. It was meatballs in beefy mushroom gravy, a few veggies (don't remember) and a HOMEMADE banana pudding (cooked on the stove). It was challenging but I will never forget it :)

I remember my cousin and I making a dinner for our family when we were about 9 or 10. I don't remember the whole thing, but I do remember making "soup" and "noodles". The soup was basically broth which we put a bunch of different seasonings in (I remember tasting it like a million times!) and the "noodles" were my brilliant idea. My grandma used to make the best homemade noodles. I think my noodles were flour and water, dumped into some of the above mentioned soup.

We were at my cousin's house, and I still remember my brother and other cousin gagging and refusing to eat it. God bless my aunt and uncle for choking it down! ROFL!

The first edible meal I remember making for others was spaghetti for my grandparents once I got my first apartment. And yes, I was a lot better cook by then!

I don't remember ever cooking a meal when I still lived at home, but I got my own apartment just before I turned 18. I very definitely remember what I cooked the first night I was there. It was cube steak and mashed potatoes too. But, I also cooked some frozen corn to go with it. I was so proud of myself for cooking a whole meal. My cooking skills unfortunately haven't progressed a whole lot since then as this is still pretty much a staple around here. But I do substitute meatloaf for the cube steak most days.
