we are doing Rickshaw Rally. I was outvoted again by the very aggresive director. Last year she picked the England themed one. I wanted the underwater one. This year alot of us like the olympic themed one. We never get a say in anything. I went to a meeting and my heart is in it, but I just cant get into the theme. It is turning out so hard to get decorations etc. I bought some stuff in april at disney. Just a parasol and some fans. That was like $20. I got some wrapping paper with flowers to cover some walls, like a garden background and I got some paper lanterns and cheap windsocks etc. I am thinking of taking a piece of blue material and turning it into a koi pond on the floor, now to find some plastic cheap fish etc. I dont like wracking my brain out like this. Worse she wants all the leaders to wear kimonos. I said I dont have anything like that. Another expense. Now she wants my 2 ds to wear white t shirts and black shorts each day. More expense and she is buying them a black bandana. If you are doing this, what decorating ideas do you have.

We are doing an Adventure Hero one. Last year we did an Old Testament one, and the one before (my favorite) was God's Great Gallery. I work at the church, so I can't help out during VBS, but I do all the prep work that can be done from my office.

Lava Lava Island. DW is the doing the crafts this year for our church. Last year we did one that was underwater (forget the name) and she did games.

I see Rickshaw Rally everywhere! However, we are doing the Son Games.

It's always fun to see the May edition of a local Christian parenting magazine in our area because it lists all the VBS' in a tri-county area.

We are also doing Rickshaw Rally and did England last year. Haven't seen the materials yet though...

Last year we did the underwater one, very cute! Year before that, I don't remember and, for the life of me can't remember this year's! :o And, we were just discussing it tonight! :earseek:

We are doing Lava Lava Island too and I'm so thrilled. Last year we did the England one and I thought it was horrible. The video each night was not only VERY dated, but my DD couldn't understand the heavy accents. She doesn't ever talk about last year's VBS. However, the year before we did Bug Safari and she STILL knows the Bible verses and every word to every song. We have a regional manager in our church for Lifeway (produced the England one and Rickshaw Alley) so it's always a battle to use another program. I so much prefer Group though. They have much better themes (Bug Safari and Lava Lava Island). We have a new children's minister and she just picked the theme which worked in my favor "this" time.

Last year was all about "Do you wanna go deep!?!?!?!?!?" (Underwater theme). Loved that one too.

Lava Lava Island looks like Lotsa Lotsa Fun!!!!!

Good luck to all VBS'ers!

Actually I wanted Lava Lava, but the person helping me out wanted SonGames (by Gospel Light) so that is what we are going with. THis is my first year directing VBS, so wish me luck!................P

Actually it works out well for my family.... the Church where the kids went to preschool usually does the newest one by Group (this year Lava Lava) and they usually attend VBS there as well as at our Church. They have attended the Bug Safari, last year's "Scuba", as wel as many other good ones. We tried the "Focus on the Family" VBS program last year and found we didn't like it as well. It was their first year putting out a VBS and I think they need to "tweak" it a bit.....................P

We're doing Lava Lava Island also. Really looking forward to it. It starts June 7th. Got to get busy!

Last year's was SCUBA, Super Cool Underwater Bible Adventure, really fun.

I love to help out with VBS, usually a crew leader or do games.

We are doing Rickshaw Rally this year and we did the England one last year. This is the first time our VBS will be at night and the first time dh and I will be teaching. Wish us luck!

Our church is doing the same one.

My kids have never gone before (different church that didn't do it).

But we are doing Lava Lava as well. I was worrying if my older one would find it boring or not (he's 9)

We were planning on doing Lava Lava Island this year and it looked like a lot of fun. But, our church had a major problem and split and our new church (those of us that left because we would not stand for the wrong things happening) decided it would be better for us to pick something else. We don't have any money set aside for VBS (we've been a church for less than 2 months) but God provided. Another church donated a complete set of Son Creek VBS materials, so that is what we are doing. It is a year or two old, but really looks fun. Its an old west theme.

Last year, we did the 321 Penguins and it was great. I'm really excited about this year because it is going to be so different. Our church still doesn't have an actual building (we've been meeting in a school gym) so we are having in it a home that one of our members donated to the church. We will be outreaching to the neighborhood it is located in and doing everything really low-key and fun. The pastor at our old church insisted that everything be very showy and elaborate, so this will be a nice change. Good luck to everyone with yours.

We did SunCreek a few years ago.... it was a blast. Have fun. I will pray for your new church.... our church is fairly new also, so we well know the difficulties involved!.............P

Our Asst. Pastor, who is also our youth leader, always writes it himself. He does a fantastic job, goes all out. He always transforms our entire church into whatever theme he has picked for that year. One year we did a Pirate theme and turned the inside of our church into the inside of a pirate ship... very cool! Another year, it had an Australian Outback theme and the church was... well, the Australian Outback. He really does an amazing job.

It is always action packed, and full of fun and excitement.. not the usual bible stories and crafts. He has a very creative way to bring the gospel across... the kids love it! He uses the youth group to help and work the Kids Kamp, that's what it's called.

I helped one year, and the theme had to do with a time machine that brought biblical characters back from time. I played Jezabel, and came through this door with strobe lights and smoke.... kids were really wow'd!

Mercy, that sounds terrific. Maybe he should write VBS packages for commercial distribution!!

Anyhow, glad to hear that others are doing the SonGames. I maybe looking for help/suggestions..... glad to know where I can come to ask!.....................P

This year we are doing Lava Lava Island. The program really looks great!

We usually have 150 children attend. I am on the planning committee and also in charge of registrations, placements, teachers, volunteers, all mailings and computer printups. I also teach. I look forward to it each and every summer. My children do too. DD16 is a teacher's aide, DS9 and DD6 attend. It's a wonderful part of our summer vacation!
(That and Disney trips!)

The past 2 years were Veggie Tales:

Jonah went on a journey, but didn't really know.
God wants us to follow Him, wherever we may go.

Walk, walk walk with God, walking in God's ways,
We can learn to do what's right, every single day!

:sunny: Have a wonderful VBS 2004 all!
