What type of backing for trading pins?

Hi there... I'm wondering what type of backing you would recommend for pin trading. A few years back we pin traded for the first time and my son kept losing pins with the black backing that comes with a pin purchase.

Also, does anyone have any good websites for cool and different lanyards?

Thanks in advance!

We had good luck with pin backs that we bought at Michaels. They were 10 per package and we just removed & discarded the front piece. I know others like the locking backs, but they aren't convenient for trading.

I have used the locking pins for the pins I want to display and want to keep. My trader pins I usually keep/kept in a small pouch attached to my lanyard.

Some folks say that the metal pin backs (the old style cloisonné pin backs) tend to work better than the rubber Mickey heads. I've also found that if you jam the pin into the Mickey head back at a location different than where the pre-existing hole is, it'll stay on better (just be careful that you don't jab your finger).

Disney sells locking back pins and those do hold on pretty good, but they can hurt if you jab yourself with them. They're basically metal cylinders (about a quarter of an inch long). So if you put them on a lanyard and then lean against something, they can jab you.

I bought my backs on ebay. They are metal and lock on, but are much easier to use than the ones Disney sells. You just pull on the end piece and they unlock. Just search for Disney locking pin backs no tool required and you will see them. They work great. We have never lost a pin since we started using them.

We had a hard time with the black backing as well.

Hi msdroz!!!!!

We had the same issue, lost pins and lots of tears!! We ended up putting the backs on backwards and that solved the problem!

Last year we bought the Princess pin backings at WDW; they have worked great so far. Also, as far as lanyards, both daughers have a princess one, but the oldest has so many pins, she uses one of my old race medals as a lanyard.

Thanks so much everyone, I really appreciate it :) I made this shadow box in my son's room that displays all of his pins along with other mementos and we can't wait to add to the collection!

cwaltjen imagine finding you here! Small world!! :cool1:
