What type of autograph book do you use?

Hi, we have been to WDW many times with our children and I have always used the little autograph books and removed the pages when we got home. This time at DL I am thinking about taking each child thier own creative memories 7x7 album. I was wanting to take different color pens and have all the characters just sign one or two pages instead of having all these tiny sheets of paper in the scrapbook. Has anyone ever done this? Do you think it would be a good idea? My only worry is carrying around all these books. I know that as soon as I only take one and mark pages for each child we will have sharing issues and major meltdowns in line.
Thanks,
Julie

Gosh, I would think that having the CM albums would be more expensive than just buying an official autograph book! But I don't know what WDW has available, only DL. :)

I thought of the CM idea, but the expense is what got to me. Also, we didn't realize that our 3 year old (with no older sibs to influence) would want autographs, but he was peer pressured by the other kids in the line! Ah, it happens so fast...so we just got him a 12ish dollar autograph book with space for a picture on the other side of the page. Pretty cover, comes with a pen, seemed to work.

But if you have a good deal on the CM books, it's a cool idea.

we normally make ours and bind it with chipboard covering. this year with all us being sick (still are!! ugh) we are just going to buy one I think.

What about making a tag book, or like a matchbook album. That way you still have an album, its not soo costly, or bulky. If you didnt like the look you can just take the pages out and put them in a CM album.
here is something I found that is really cute.

Thanks guys, about the expense my daughters already have cm books I made a couple years ago with the snap packs. I was just going to add a few pages in those books. Being that my son is the 3rd I have not gotten him a book yet eventhough he has been to WDW twice and now to DL. Just to make things even (gotta try to do that) I thought I would purchase him one and it comes with pages in it. I've never heard of one that you put pics next to, that sound cool.
Thanks for the link, I'm usually the type to make books, or b-day invitations, but school activities and homework from two kids is killing me this year. I don't think I'll have time to do this before we leave.
Great Ideas!
Thanks,
Julie

About 3 years ago I had bought my daughters the regular autograph book at DL and they loved it. To avoid having to put big slips of paper in my scrapbook, I shrunk them on my printer to the size I needed for the page I was working on. Then I was able to chalk it to add some color to match the rest of the page. I have had more compliments on that from people than the rest of the fun stuff in my book. (my pride & joy book!! My favorite book so far. Best trip to DL that year!) Oh yea, my girls were able to keep the original autographs in their book and didn't feel like I took them away. If they were to loose it, no biggy because I have it in our scrapbook!
Just an idea...

I buy a small scrapbook 4x5 inch that is spiral bound. The pages are more like card stock than paper,so a lot sturdier.

We try to make sure the characters sign on one page and leave the opposing page blank. I then can add a cropped picture.

My DD is only 5 so doesn't really do scrapping herself. This size page doesn't leave room for much more than a picture, but I really like the way they turn out. After I add the pics of the characters and a few more select ones to the blank pages, they serve as a mini-photo album for us.

I never have liked the autograph books that the parks sell. These work out great for us.

There are some really cute ideas on this thread! We just buy the books there, since they have room for a photo as well. DD has a full Princess book, and a half-full Pirates of the Carribean book (that one is cool because it comes with a compass and stickers!). She likes getting a book and a matching pen. I really love the scrapbook idea though!

I will be taking along 8x8 papers to get signed. I bought a book that is 8x8 to put in the autographs along with pictures of my daughter with the character.

Each of my DDs have a 7x7 Creative Memories album (red with a Mickey head in the corner). We just kept them in a backpack with a container that holds a few CM round tip pens. When we'd see a character, we'd pull the books out and I'd open up the container and each DD would pick a pen (had to be color appropriate, you know!).

We let them sign on every page and later added a page in between each one to include the photos. They are now pretty big, but so worth it!

Maybe I should post some pics...

My daughter used a small clip board this time and it worked great.

I purchased a small white board (5x7) and clips from Learning is Fun (teaching supply store). Then I cut 4 x 6 pieces of cardstock. The stack of paper was kept together in a zip lock bag. I put a clip on each end of the white board (really helped when it was breezy) and put several pieces of paper on both sides under the clips. Having the paper on both sides was great when two characters were working together, one signs, flip and its ready for the second. After we were done with the character the autographs came off the clip board into a seperate zip lock bag to stay safe.

You can also decorate the papers ahead of time for each character. I did this and it was wonderful to see the characters reaction to their special page but was a problem when we saw rare characters and had to flip through the pages for a blank one. I also decorated a bunch for princesses and we didn't get a single princess autograph. So I had all those pages in the way and unused.

Have fun,
