I guess this took the place of "Tropical Night" and was wondering if anyone actually dresses up as pirates or just wear the usual tropical prints? We've had a blast dancing on the top deck with the CMs on past cruises and hope they do the same thing now that it's Pirate Night and were wondering if they've added anything new? pirate:

an eye patch and red/white stripe shirt is a good start....

Why not tropical? For Mexicalli... night on the Western most everyone wears.........tropical :sad2:

There is no more Mexicalli or Tropical night on the Magic. It has been replaced with Pirate night. The deck party now includes fireworks which really adds to the excitement. :) We wore our Mickey tropical matching outfits simply because I had purchased them before the switch was made. Alot of people had tropical clothing on but there were some dressed more like pirates. I took pirate hats for the kids to wear along with them. I will be on the lookout for a frilly blouse for myself for this year & will also be watching for pirate costumes for the kids.

You will find both pirate costumes and tropical wear. We just did the 10 day and had great fun dressing as a Pirate and a tavern wench. There were lots of people dressed tropical as well. Just do what is fun for you. My DH was picked out of the crowd to participate in the "show". He was a great pirate, IMHO.

On our last cruise, most people just had on normal resort casual clothing. There were a few in tropical attire, but not many. I agree with the other posts, wear whatever makes you happy and you'll fit in fine! :cool1:

I refuse to wear a Puffy Shirt to look like a pirate. Only reason Seinfeld did it was because he inadvertantly agreed to because she was a low-talker.

DS will be wearing the Disney Tropical Shirt I bought him and he and I also have matching Hawaiian shirts from Hilo Hatties. For those who want to wear eye patches, etc., have fun. pirate: :earboy2:

To all of us who say 'no way' I'm not dressing like a fool!

Well, maybe we are the ones missing the boat! These folks get into the cruise fully, take part enthusiastically in what's going on and really, the joke might just be on us...sitting there in our short sleeve white polos and chinos.

I'm not saying that I'm going out and buying the BLUEBEARD costume at the shop but I am saying that when I let my guard down (with anything) and start just having fun....it's cool.

Just a thought.

DH and I took pirate costumes we found at a Halloween shop in October. We sailed in November. There were several others dressed as pirates. Some were elaborate and others were simple like the ones we wore. At the deck party the CM's were looking for guys dressed up and they ended up with 6 or 7 of them on stage for a "dance off". It was hilarious. I never would have dreamed that DH would ever participate is something so silly, but it's amazing what a couple of Konk Koolers will do. LOLpirate: :drinking1 :drinking1

Our pictures with the characters that night turned out fantastic and you wouldn't believe all the compliments we got from the other passengers. The kids hated that we were the center of attention for a change.

You are on a cruise on vacation. If you don't want to dress up or participate in any of the activities onboard, then don't. We like to have fun and dressed in tropical wear for tropical night and formal wear for formal night. Personally, I don't think that nice black pants, black boots, and a purple or red shirt with some ruffles on it is going to make anyone look like a fool.

pirate: Love Jack!!! I thought I would bring that and then throw some black eye liner on and a few beads in my hair......Can't wait!!
Have to find something cute for DD to wear too.

Great post Mike320! Situations such as "Pirate Night" serve as a great sociological experiment delving into societal norms and our inhibitions. What we wear or how we act in public are functions of a restraint system inherent to our personalities. I believe what we must remember is that there are many type of personalities, from the most extroverted to the very shy, and we must respect these differences. Well as long as these differences are not detrimental to the whole group, for example and "extrovert" who has had too much to drink and really "acts a fool". To each their own from the Jack Sparrows of the world in the middle of the deck party to the "secret" Deck 7 aft type people - Just have fun and enjoy the magic in your own special way!

That's how we'll be dressed. Can't wait! I love the opportunity to step out of our everyday shoes and really live a little and that's what I intend to do! I'm gonna party like a real Pirate's Woman and guess what? If I embarrass myself, it's ok cause I'll be on a boat with 2000 strangers who don't know me from Eve and I'll laugh right along with them. We're gonna kick up our Pirate boots and have a great time! Like the others have said, wear whatever is going to be comfortable and fun for you. Pirate garb, tropical, it's all in good fun. I've done the tropical thing so many times that playing dressup really appealed to me. To each his own. I'm gonna have FUN! pirate:

That's exactly what I'll be wearing.

My boys are VERY into the whole pirate thing. I got the baby a pirate onesie and pirate socks at gymboree online(they are on sale now), and I got the older boys pirate costumes at Penney's online outlet for $5 each. If you look on ebay there are tons of pirate type t-shirts. I don't think DH and I will wear pirate costumes, but I may get us some pirate t's or head scarves. Here is one site I found:

Think I can get my 14 yr old DS to dress up as a pirate. :) Sure would be fun to try! See all Feb 12 Westerners there!

Well, when we heard about the pirate night we went all out. Our group on the Dis Boards really got into it and not only did we all thoroughly enjoy pirate night we also went on to the pirate sites and got pirate names and played the whole thing for what it was worth on the 10 day Christmas Cruise. It was a blast. I even arranged for Captain Hook and Mr. Smee to meet us in the atrium with Guest Services for a picture:

Now............call me an overachiever....................but it was a blast and now we have a family picture to treasure forever of our family memory. My DH is bought a couple of extra "toys" at Pirates of the Caribbean at WDW before we got on the cruise:

For some great sites on pirate "stuff" you can go to Deadmentellnotales.com among others.

As for us...........well we are going on the 14 day PC in May and have our pirate gear all ready! Aarrgghh Matey!

What a great picture! Where else can you dress up like that & not be locked away. :) It looks like you had a great time.

you guys look great- it must have been so much fun for everyone to dress up- i'm gonna dress up in some type of pirate outfit and DS has his from halloween....but i have yet to convince DH to join in the costume fun :)
