Hi, all!

Our family has been invited to an Eagle Scout Ceremony, & neither DH nor I have ever been to one before.

Is it as dressy/formal as a high school graduation?

Currently, I'm planning to wear dressy cropped pants w/ heeled sandals. DD is wearing a sundress. Older DS is wearing slacks w/ a collared short-sleeved shirt over a coordinating t-shirt. Younger DS is wearing dressy shorts w/ a collared short-sleeved shirt over a coordinating t-shirt. DH is wearing a collared, linen short-sleeved shirt w/ slacks.

I've been thinking the above would be okay, but now I'm a bit worried that the ceremony is more formal & maybe DH & older DS should wear long-sleeved shirts w/ ties instead.

Oh, &, for a gift, we have a keepsake coin engraved w/ the Boy Scout oath & a gift card to a local sports & recreation store. Is that a usual Eagle Scout kind of gift?

Thanks for the help! :cool2:

I think what you're wearing is fine I know a number of young men that have become eagle scouts and have seen lots of pictures. You'll be appropriately dressed.

There will likely be lots of men and boys in scout uniforms.

That is great attire and very appropriate. I agree with PP, if you have someone in the family in scouts, have them in full uniform, otherwise what you posted is perfect. DH is an Eagle Scout and we have been to plenty and have noticed attire from very nice (typically parents) to jeans and a T-shirt--what you described is what the majority wear :)

Dress according to the venue!!! :)
Eagle Scout Ceremonies can vary and differ, just as much as the individual Scout.

Some might be catered dinners.
Some might be Church affairs held at the Scouts place of worship.
Some might be very casual.
We brought in catered BBQ, at the room/hall where the troop meets every week.
We set the room up very nicely with table covers, nice paper and plastic dinnerware from the Scout Store and Party City. A few balloons and decorations. Set up a podium and a screen for for a short slide show (set to "It's the Climb" sang by the British X-Factor champion, not Miley Cyus!) I would say that casual but nice would be a general rule.

I would say what you mentioned is fine! Sounds good to me!
I wouldn't want to wear flip-flops and shorts.
And, I don't think this would probably be a dressy affair either.

What you are going to wear is fine. I have been to many of them and don't recall ever seeing anyone get dressed up, jeans was the most common thing worn at them.

The gift sounds fine- we usually just give cash.

Our DS, now almost 16, became an Eagle earlier this year. It's a low-key "graduation" and guests (honored or not) dress in whatever manner seems appropriate. Jeans, suits, business-casual are all ok. Depends on the setting (Church, school, catering hall).

Gifts not typically expected but Scout-themed commemeratives, like the coins, or picture-frames, are very thoughtful.

Mostly a joyous celebration of many years of work, by the Scout/Parents. Enjoy and congratulate!

Thank you, all, for the reassurances! (Oh, & DD's dress is more like a sleeveless shift dress instead of a sundress.)

The ceremony is at a church w/ "snacks" following.

Older DS actually wants to wear shorts (nice shorts) instead of slacks, but I think he needs to wear the slacks.

My son became an Eagle Scout last year, and I agree with those who said to dress for the venue. Everything you described sounds perfect, and your gift is very thoughtful. While gifts are never expected, most people who attended my son's ceremony gave gifts. Some gave a Scout coin, many gave checks, and several gave Scout-related books (he did end up with several copies of Legacy of Honor).

Thanks, again, everyone!

We were all dressed perfectly fine! (And I'm glad older DS wore slacks & not shorts.)

I was very impressed w/ the ceremony, & we felt honored to have been invited. The Eagle Scout achievement is quite an accomplishment!

Older ds would be fine wearing shorts. Let him be comfortable! (Eagle Scout mom speaking here)
