We are having a party Sat. afternoon 12 -4. Our guests will be having app. dinner & dessert. I think afterwards I will have some family back to the house to watch the couple open their presents. What do you think I should serve besides drinks. Thanks.

I would be a little hesitant to assume there will be that many gifts for people to watch being opened. Around here usually a nice card or some flowers suffice for the engagement party, and the gifts come out at the shower and wedding. Sometimes a very close family member or something might give a real gift at the engagement party.

But you know your family best, so if you think your family will be bringing lots of gifts, then coffee, drinks and some small snacks and cookies might be nice.

Have fun!

Since you are already having a full meal, maybe some mini pastry or cookies with coffee? You could also do a fruit and cheese tray. Something people could pick at, since they will probably be full from the party.

We are a large italian family. We are having 60 guests to the restaurant and they are all family. My brothers and their families are staying with us so I'm sure some other guests will come by after not just to watch the gifts being opened but to hang out. LOL Sorry about that.

Oh I like the pastry idea with some fruit. I wasn't sure if people will be lookiing for dinner because the party is early but if we have the cheese and crackers first that would proably be perfect. Thanks

Pastries, cookies and coffee will be fine. We usually do a fruit tray too. Don't forget the espresso!

I'd go with pastries, fruit, cheese, but I'd add some meats and rolls for small sandwiches. Depending on how long people stay, they might want something a little...more. Or make up a crock pot of sausage and peppers if you want to go casual. That's a big hit around here.

OK so basically they are having lunch at the party. Italians - we are too. Siblings staying at the house and maybe a few more guests.

A cold cut platter with some breads and rolls - pastries and fruit. Perfect! Have a very nice day!:goodvibes

Chocolate Grand Marnier Fondue with fruit kabobs and pound cake. Mini Eclairs or Cream puffs. (BJ's or Sam's club have very good frozen ones.)

Mrs. Disney Ron

I would do bar types of desserts, brownies, lemon bars, baklava etc etc....things that can be eaten quickly and with your fingers are always good.

I keep reading to do desserts but it will be dinner time after the party back at the house. You need food!

HAHA- the OP is from Long Island---around here you don't show up to an engagement party without a gift! In fact many people include registry info in the engagement party invite!!!! No way would you walk in with just a card unless there was a gift card in it LOL....

Wow, I never knew people did a registry for an engagement. But OP, there really isn't anything to add. PP have given good suggestions.

Yep, later in the evening they are going to be wondering about dinner. ;)

They didn't do the registry at first and then everyone kept calling up asking where they were registered so they had to do it. LOL
