My son just turned 4 and I don't really like him to have a lot of candy so I like to put little things in his basket. This year I have NO CLUE what to put in there. Any ideas?

Kristine

How about the refillable eggs with goldfish crackers or some other snack? My son is 3 and will be getting some. The bunny will also bring hot wheels cars. bubbles, stickers, crayons and some tracks for his Thomas train.

I am not a big candy fan either, so this is what I plan to put in my kids' Easter basket this year: a Webkinz, beach towel, new swim suit, pair of flip flops, and The New Testament Picture Bible. I always put a chocolate bunny and a favorite gum in there too.

We love Easter time!

I don't know if you have a Michaels Arts and Crafts near you, but they have really great stuff to put into a basket, like bouncie balls, large bubble wands, coloring pads, little chicks and bunnies... they really have a great selection at a small price.

This year, I've decided to put food items in my kids baskets instead of candy. Things that they love, but that I might not buy all the time:

dried fruit, fruit gushers, goldfish crackers, teddy grahms, can of pringles, bottle of gatoraide, yogurt covered raisins, yogurt covered pretzels, etc.

The boys get matchbox cars in the eggs each year

I try to put some practical things that they will need for the summer in too. This year is new swim goggles and a water bottle. Other years I have done a baseball mitt, soccer ball, beach towel, stuff like that.

I've done in the past, new crayons or markers with coloring books, Easter books, tub/pool toys, sand toys, a new DVD, bubbles, sidewalk chalk.

Webkinz are popular this year too.

Good luck! :)

My 5 year olds basket will have:

A little bit of candy (pez dispenser, some peanut butter cups and some m&ms)
A new toothbrush
Bubblebath
bottle of bubbles in a no-spill tumbler
sidewalk chalk
Crayola Color Wonders coloring book/makers set
playdough
A hollow chocolate bunny (small one, maybe 6" tall)
A plastic egg with temporary tatoos in it

And maybe a couple other little things like that if I see something that catches my eye at Target this week.

My 4 yo will have these items in his basket
a Cars watch
Playdoh
Color Wonder book with finger paints
Pipe Cleaners
A small Cars character car
sticker book
1 hollow chocolate bunny
dvd
A new thomas train for his wooden set
pooh jump rope
pooh paddle ball set
Bubbles

My Target dollar section had cute stuff for Easter. I got egg-shaped playing cards, mini bunny and chick balls, Bambi and Thumper books, small stuffed bunnies. CVS always has cute little Easter-themed games, coloring books, bubbles, etc.

I don't like putting a lot of candy in either as we try not to give that to DS. We usually eat it. He just bounces off the walls with candy in his system.

He loves the character Arthur so he is getting a few Arthur books in his basket. My mom loves to fill his basket and she got him the 101 Dalmatians DVD. She also got him a VSmile cartridge on clearance and a couple of other books.

We're putting a Leapster (the portable hand-held learning system) in his Easter basket. We wouldn't normally do this but it's kind of an early getting ready for Disney present. It'll help keep him occupied on the plane next month.

Not sure what else we're putting in it. Maybe some finger paints or color wonder stuff. I'm going shopping tonight.

Thanks for all the suggestions...I was wondering how I was going to fill an Easter basket without a bunch of candy but you guys gave me some great ideas!

My guy is 5 but he is getting sidewalk chalk, water balls for the pool, aLeapster game, tons of books, paddle ball.

My ds is 4 1/2 (I have an almost 7 yo dd & a 2 yo dd too).

He got peeps & some other kind of peep looking things, jelly beans, Amanda's own 'chocolate' bunny (he has a dairy allergy) & some 'chocolate' small bunnies for his egg hunt.

He got a super soaker, wall clings from Target, egg with tattoos, another egg with some candy (gummy candy, possibly gum but I don't remember), he got an animal from the Target dollar rack (a plastic something, don't remember what), one of those pads that you write on & then peel the plastic off & it erases what you write (not a pen but the plastic pen) also from the dollar spot at Target.

I have a dinosaur but I am not sure if I am giving it to him now or for his 5th b-day in September.

I think there are a few more toys but I am not 100% sure since I bought everything well over a month ago & my mind slips these days.

I know they are getting another Webkin or 2-we have 6 in hiding-3 lil kinz & 3 full size.

I need to get the basket ready.

Oh & my kids are doing an egg hunt & I am putting stickers in the eggs instead of candy. I might put pennies in it too but I am not sure yet.

DD is getting a new board game in her basket, along with a Sleeping Beauty umbrella, bubble wand, some new books, flip-flops, sunglasses and a new visor. (I am probably too practical to be much fun, but I get SO tired of all the little junk!) For her egg hunt, the eggs will be filled with socks, stickers and coins for her bank. She will get a thing of jelly beans and a Reese's peanut butter bunny, but I debated even getting them. DH is diabetic and so, of course, DD has a stronger tendency towards it as well, so I really try not to do the candy thing AT ALL.

This year my kids are getting personalized autograph books for our August trip. I am also hiding eggs around the house with disney pins in them. (for them to trade in August).

You have gotten some great ideas here.

Favorite character toothbrush and toothpaste.

Crayons/coloring book.

Gift certificate for McDonalds/Burger King (sometimes they have the fries or ice cream ones).

Baseball cap?

Soccer Ball? or some other safe item from a sport he might be into.

Umbrella?

Mug?

Cereal (multi-pak).

I miss those days - gotta wait now for the grandchildren.

Great ideas! I just went to Dollar Tree and filled up my DS7's basket (he gets too much candy from everywhere else). They have some great Disney things if you have one in your area. I got a Cars kaleidoscope, a couple of Mickey figurines, a few Disney workbooks, some small puzzles (one Donald, one Mickey), and more. So great! So cheap!

AnnaS - that toothbrush and toothpaste idea is awesome. Santa always puts a new toothbrush in all of our stockings at Christmas.

My 3.5 & 5yo will get in basket:
Thermos Foogos with superhero design
light up bounce ball from Target
mini-ball with frog inside
sidewalk chalk
markers
kids garden gloves
kids hand-held size garden rake
hand puppet thingee (sorta like oobi on noggin)
chocolate bunny & jelly beans

hidden in eggs:
easter tatoos
mini self-inking stampers
stickers
maybe a marshmellow chick cuz they love them
quarters

we also bought some spring outside toys, which my DH does every year at this time:
child-size rake & broom
bases (for baseball)
hockey net & sticks

No Candy here either. Easter in our house is a little like Christmas? This year we really went a little further out than usual. Of course he got a bike(out grew last one)swim towel, trunks, goggles, swim socks, bubbles, 2 WII games, Disney Dollars in Big Easter eggs, Buzz Sunglasses, Bible coloring books, a ton of Disney Stuff that I have picked up here and there. My idea is to have a "Special Disney Basket" that Mickey Mouse has given to the Easter bunny to deliver to get DS ready for Disney.
