Hi, there!
What do you guys wear in the parks in the hotter months?
I am not a big fan of shorts, but I will wear capris, sometimes tank tops, etc. I want to look presentable in my pictures (ie not sweaty and discombobulated)
Do you guys have any advice on how to look "cool" and well put together in the heat?
Do you wear anything different in nicer park restaurants like Coral Reef or Bistro de Paris?
Thanks!

We mainly wore shorts and t-shirts. It was so, so, hot. If you wear capris, make them nice and light.

We didn't even pack socks. We wore Tevas.

I had planned to do laundry once mid-trip, but we ended up doing it several times. It was so hot that we were going through 2 outfits/day each. We went back to our room mid-day and took showers during the hottest part of the afternoon so we'd be refreshed for the evening. Unless you have a short stay or can do laundry, pack some extra clothes because you might want to change into something fresh if you take afternoon breaks.

One thing to look into is workout clothes. These tend to be a little more breathable and allow for the moisture to be taken away from the body. Its a Godsend in the middle of a hot and humid day to not have your clothes sticking to you.

Also, hats. They are great to keep the sun off of your hear and will also hide the really bad hair and sweat!

We've been several times in August (no choice due to conflicting school schedules) We love the later hours, but agree with other posters - either bring extra clothes or do laundry. The great thing is you will not need sweaters, jackets or long pants!!! We're going again this August with another family.

I am not a shorts wearer either. I have the whitest legs on the planet :rotfl: I do wear shorts and tank/t shirts in Disney. I also wear lots of sunscreen even on my legs. I also recommend the change in the middle of the day. Plan on a shower/swim to cool off. I also go into many of the shops for a few in between rides. They are airconditioned. I also never wear a hat, I do wear a visor at disney. It helps keep the sun off my face and the light from my eyes.

I can say I have never looked at anyone elses legs or clothes ( ok maybe that woman with the really short shorts and string top, she must have weightin at at least 200 lbs)YUK. ok I am also overweight but I wear clothes. You will look frazzeled and hot in August in Disney. Sorry but it will be very hot. Oh and change your deodorant as often as possible. LOL I bring a rollon in my fanny pack. At least I am not THAT person in line. HMMM may I smell to good. That may be why all those people stand so close they are almost in my back pocket LOL :crowded:

We also lived in shorts and tank tops. We went through about 2 outfits a day too. Plus, if your clothes especially denim get wet from a ride or rain shower, it just doesn't dry walking around, you almost definately have to change unless you don't care. I would never have survived in anything other than the shorts and tanks. Hot Hot Hot!!!

Oh, don't even bother with denim - it rains almost every day and there is only one word - CHAFING. Been there, done that, NOT going back!

Also when going on water rides, denim is not the best thing to wear! They just don't dry! My DM was walking around with wet shorts all day!

Well, I know I will be wearing a baseball cap because the top of my head sunburns along the part in my hair!

I am already an overpacker, so we will all have at LEAST 2 outfits per day PLUS detergent in case we want to wash.

All of my shorts are denim or twill, so I will just avoid the water rides or do them last thing before we go back to the room. I am bringing 2 pairs of sandals and at least 3 pairs of athletic shoes. The shirts I am having a more difficult time with. I usually wear cotton knit tops, but maybe I need to re-think that. Good thing I will have the months of June and July in Texas to figure out what works well in the heat! I usually stay inside in the summer, but this summer I will be building up my tolerance to being OUTSIDE! :sunny:

We have used spray deodorant on our feet to help prevent blisters when wearing socks and tennis shoes in the heat.

Moleskin is good to cover hot spots before blisters develop and Band-Aid has a product that you can wear for several days, even after showering, that you can put on an area of your foot that you know is prone to developing blisters before they start. I like this even better than moleskin.

Don't forget the rain poncho's, extra sneakers are a must. It rains everyday in Florida in August, usually just a quick 20 minute downpour every afternoon. If you are lucky you will be inside on a ride and you may never get wet! They only way you will know it rained is that the ground is soaked. That was what happened to us in Sept '00.

When we went in August 2003, it poured everyday some days it was almost for 4 hours! and our sneakers were SOAKED! I ended up going to the laundry to put them in the dryer everynight (Along with many other folks) They had 10 inches of rain the week we were there. That was very unusaual.

I also do not like how I look in shorts. I would go for lightweight capris and tank tops. They are just about as cool as shorts and you won't have to be self-conscious(sp.?) Even though I am not a hat wearer, like other posters I would defiitely wear a hat in August. This will help hide frizzy hair.

Wow I'm glad a read this post! I was going to pack my denim shorts and skirts for our July trip and didn't even think about how SLOW they dry! Great tip, I'll have to be sure to get some lightweigt shorts and skirts!

We live in So Fla but WDW is always hotter than Miami due to no ocean breezes. My uniform for our June trips is :
1. Crocs - dry so fast and I dont have to worry about blisters. Love my CROCS
2. one of the perfect fit tanks with the built in bra. www.solutionscatalog.com has them. Comfy but covers well.
3. And mens swim trunks. You can get them in normal looking colors so they just look like shorts. They breathe, and dry quickly from the water rides and rain showers. They also usually have several pockets like cargo shorts which cuts down on having to have a fanny pack or backpack.
4. Totes rain hat with wide brim.
5. SUNSCREEN

Maybe not the most stylish of outfits but it gets me through a week in June every year with minimum trouble.

Ponchos are a must. It WILL rain!

Neosporin is the best thing I have found for chafing. It packs easy and works fast! (I also learned that the hard way!)

A Cool hat.

Our whole family wears Nike straprunner sandals....works great for the water rides, rain, and lets kids run through fountains to cool off.

Our last trip I liked wearing running type shorts. They are very light, wick away moisture, dry quickly....bought them at Sports Authority. One day I wore my tankini style bathing suit top. It was a nice design that made it look like an actually top instead of a bathing suit. It dried really quickly after the water rides. There are some nice tankinis at the Landsend.com

HTH :sunny:

I bet my legs are whiter than yours. :rotfl: I think I look even worse in capris than I do in shorts. We always go in August due to school schedules and it is extremely hot. I am envious of these woman that have coordinated outfits..... Tops with little cherries on them and the shorts that match....and of course coordinated sandals. They look so put together.
I wear basic t shirts, bring extra bras, light colored pants or jeans. It is very humid. Comfortable shoes are important...wear something you have worn before..don't break in new ones and if you wear sneakers or shoes, wear socks. I know it is hot but that is what stops the blisters. They don't have to be thick.
August, there is usually a quick afternoon rain. From tips on this board, I go to the dollar store and pick up the 2/1.00 ponchos. They are very thin like a garbage bag but serve the purpose. The package is 2" x 3" and you are always prepared. Instead of worrying about drying them off, you toss them. I have even put them on when going on a water ride to stay dry. I can enjoy the ride without the worry about wet clothes.
I agree with the hat. I have tried different methods of securing my hair, I always end up looking like someone who has stuck their finger in a light socket.
Have a great trip. :)
