Hi everyone! We are going the first week in December for the first time. (we've gone twice in may) What would be the best shoes to take? Should we even pack our Nike sandals? (Those were our favorites before, especially on water rides!) What kind of jackets should we take? I know the weather is unpredictable so we will check the forecast before we leave. I'm just trying to get ideas so that I can get my shopping done!!princess:

When we went in feb. The thing I missed the most were my sandals. I'll be packing them for the trip in Dec. Just in case.

Layers, layers, layers

I've been in December almost every year for about 7-8 years. The daytime temp can vary from 85 to 45! I look at the weather forecast to try to get an appoximation of what the weather will be like but I try to take a few things that will cover the extremes.
One year I threw in a scarf and a pair of gloves at the last minutes and boy was I glad. Other times I've been so glad to have shorts and sandals.

I know this doesn't really help narrow down what to take but I'm not sure that's really possible.

Example:
short sleeve tshirt
longs sleeve tshirt
denim, flannel or corduroy shirt
sweatshirt
light jacket to put on over all of the above if it gets cold.

I really liked the shirt as a jacket over a tshirt better than a sweatshirt as the shirt was easier to take on and off. Somedays you need a little something extra in the shade or in the mornings but need to take it off in the sun at midday.

I agree with arminnie. One morning we wore hats, gloves and scarves. We didn't take winter coats only heavy hooded jackets due to limited space. This year we are driving so I'm packing both a winter coat and wind breaker. Just in case. Wearing hats and gloves that morning was the only way that we could have stood the cold temperatures.

Layering is the best advice. I don't remember wearing a short sleeve shirt but I did wear a long sleeve shirt without a jacket. My children went swimming one afternoon in the heated CR pool. It makes it difficult to pack lightly because you are having to pack so many bulky items.

We will be there Dec. 5- Dec. 13. It is a wonderfully quiet time of the year to visit.

Have fun,

Lori

One more vote for arminnie. We have been at WDW over the past six years and the one thing you can never count on is the weather. Last year X-mas eve it rained so hard we got soaked right thru to our underwear.

definitely layers!!! I wore Cuddleduds under my shirts in the morning/evening. Then went to the restroom to take it off and wad up in my backpack. They are a very thin warm layer available at dept stores or other brands at Target/Walmart.

I only had a fleece jacket from Old Navy and my Nylon rain jacket..those synthetics really keep you warm without much bulk.

The good thing about going in the holiday season is we wore our fluffy santa Mickey hats everywhere. I was completely comfortable and took my hat off for a moment and --BAM -- I was freezing all of a sudden.

You've got the right idea..check the weather the day before and modift accordingly.

The replies were helpful to me too, so thanks :)

(We're going Dec. 4-12)

we went the second week in Dec. last year and the day we arrived it was warm enough to swim:cool2: but the rest of the time we froze especially at night, my DD had a shirt and a jacket on and we had to buy her another jacket because she was so cold!

Hope we could help,
Carol and DD Stephprincess:

I guess everyone has different tolerances of the weather. We went the 2nd week of Dec. last year. Every day I wore capris (one day wore a skort) and most of the time I was comfy. Was in the 60's mostly, some 70's. And LOTS of rain! I was so glad I had my Teva sandals for the downpouring rain, even at night in Epcot and MK in the upper 50's to 60's. (Hubby wore sneakers in the rain, but wished he had worn his sandals.) Usually, my feet get cold easily, but I was fine with the Tevas. We wore fleece lined hooded water repellent jackets and ponchos. Sometimes short sleeve shirts and some long sleeve, sometimes sweatshirts. Layers, layers.
I hope it's not as rainy for you and not cold. Have fun!!:)

I think your home location has a lot to do with your tolerance of December Florida weather. I noticed that the people from North Carolina were cold where the people from Michigan were not. It depends on the thickness of your blood!! LOL! We're from New England and go at this time every year. We wear Burks every day, even at night, although sometimes I do include socks and usually wear shorts during the day and change to jeans at night. We swam most afternoons, albiet for a short while. December is the best time of the year to visit WDW...between the Christmas decorations, the Candlelight Processional, MVMCP and just general jollyness, we find it to be our favorite. We'll be there when you all are there....look for the two old codgers with shorts and sandals.
