We are renting a pool home and plan to do a lot of our meals at the house. For those that also do this, what type of foods do you pack to take? Is it mainly the snack items? I know there is a grocery store and Walmart close to the house. We do plan to buy things there (perishables). Any suggests. It with be myself, DH, DS6 and DS4.

Any suggestions?

Are you flying or driving? If you are flying then I wouldn't bother packing things in a suitcase - things get crushed. Believe me - I've done it! :rotfl:

If you are driving I would probably pack lots of snacks & water - things in packages that can't crush easily - Pringles, boxed snacks, etc. Also, lots of water if you are driving.

If you are flying then I would just do the grocery stop - take coupons with you. Also, if you go to Winn Dixie you can sign up for their discount shopper card to get all the discounts. I believe you can do it right at the register.

We are driving and even then buy most of our stuff for the week there. We will be taking a big box of PopTarts and a package of those little mini cereals that we are getting at Costco, but we are mainly bringing them instead of buying them because we will eat them on the trip down too.

We are bringing a smallish cooler with us too so we can bring a tupperware container of mayo and mustard and a stick of butter as well as a jar of jelly. I hate throwing away a whole container when we leave.

We also do bring snacks because I try and stock up on them when there is a sale at home, but really I have found prices at Publix and at Walmart to be quite comparable to home. You may want to bring paper towels and foil. We also bring an extra juice pitcher so we can have more than one kind of drink--usually juice and Kool Aid.

We are flying so I think I'll just stick to bringing a few snacks for on the plane. Does anyone know if the Walmart on the West end of of 192 is a SuperWalmart with groceries? It was built right after I was there last time. Just curious.

Is that the one on 27? I believe that is the west end of 192  ... we stayed on 27 last year and were about a mile from that Walmart and yes it is a SuperWalmart. There is also a Publix not very far down from 27 on 192. (but I preferred the selection at Walmart!).

We flew and in one of our carry ons we brought a bunch of water and lots of snacks. Most of the snacks we brought were things that travel well and dont get squashed easy. Pringles, fruit snacks, slim jims, boxes of pop tarts, trail mix, cheese and crackers packs and the like. We had eaten almost everything by the time we left. I did wish we would have brought at least one more thing of water. We finished ours a day and a half before we left. We are HUGE water drinkers though.
