What to give an Eagle Scout Award recipient?

Very good friends of ours are throwing a party for their 18 year old son. Just wondering if anyone had some ideas as what to get him?

PS, we also have to go to his HS graduation & his sisters grammar school graduation party July 3rd.

My family just attended our first Eagle Scout ceremony last week in Newton, NJ...not too far from you! The ceremony was for one of my husband's students and we gave him a gift card to Cabela's. He's an avid fisherman and loves any outdoor activity. At first we thought of a Swiss army knife or even a Leatherman tool but then we figured that might something his parents would like to give him so we opted for the gift card.

I really enjoyed the ceremony. I learned alot about the Boy Scouts.

The local Scout shop in your area will carry all sorts of Eagle gift items. My favorite to give is a leather ball cap with an eagle on it, about $16, looks very impressive, good quality. The Scout shop also carries knives, money clips, keychains, etc, all with the Eagle designation, specifically for those who've made Eagle Scout.

The scout store has all sorts of centennial things for Boy Scouts too. He should be VERY proud. That's an extremely difficult honor to earn. I'm a cub scout leader so I can only hope that my son earns it some day.

Not sure if they are still available or not but the US Mint came out with a special 100th anniversary silver coin. I got 1 for each of my boys for when they hopefully achieve Eagle Scout. (One is Star and the other is a Webelos in the Cub Scout program). They are really nice.

My son will be receiving his Eagle Scout later this year and I know he would prefer cash or a gift card.

We got DS an Eagle Scout knife from Buck Knives. It is $42 so that might be a little spendy. Very nice knife. DS has been very impressed with his.
Cash is also good as mentioned by PP.

Hey so when I got mine, my highschool XC coach had a picture of me finishing one of the races blown up. I still have that picture to this day, kept in the original envelope to keep it safe. Sometimes the simplest gifts are the ones that are the most appreciated.

But yes, knives are always useful, and you can get either an eagle scout knife, or go get a good knife from a sporting goods store and have it engraved. Along with the award you get a tie clip/pins/etc. Sadly I've lost all of those . I do actually need another one so if anyone happens to know where one can order one of those.

Our son really enjoyed the eagle specific gifts. One person got him a glass eagle. He really liked that. He also received a very nice pocket knife, and a walking stick. I was surprised at how much he liked the Eagle specific gifts, as he really prefers money/gift cards for other occasions. I think though, that to him this was all about the Eagle, and not about the gifts.

My son just handed in his eagle project to his district. So hopefully we'll hear soon. This is a huge achievement for any scout. They deserve a lot of recognition.

We have given scouts money, Eastern Mountain Sports Gift Cards, Cabella's Gift Cards and sometime just cards. Most appreciate the cash. Most are headed to college soon and the money is great.

I think many scouts would like cash if given the choice. But, cash is gone, quickly. Most will come to cherish everything about their Eagle rank as they get older. So, I still like something Eagle oriented. I have given the nice embroidered Eagle neckerchief, and several other Eagle gifts. But another option is to buy them a membership into the National Eagle Scout Association, or NESA. Last time I checked, you can buy a short term (few year) membership, or if it is someone very special to you, a lifetime membership.
