What to Expect Memorial Day Week?

We are considering going to the parks and water parks Memorial Day week (Monday-Friday). What kind of crowd levels should we expect? We are AP holders but have never been this time of year before- always January, February, late August, September, or late November.

Thanks for the input!

It will be busy!! Be sure to make fast passes as waits will be fairly long with some days having parks ranking 10 on crowds.

That was the week of our trip last year - was crowded (pretty much a given anytime nowadays) but was nowhere near our normal Thanksgiving week visits.

The only place that was really mobbed was AK, which was a given since the Avatar area had just opened that month.

We would go back that week in a heartbeat, was hot but not killer hot. Enjoy your trip --

We’re going to be there over the Memorial Day weekend as well. I was trying to find “here now” or “just back” threads from last year but couldn’t find any. Hopefully other people who have been will chime in!

I've been trying to find info too. We are going June 3-9 and its 8-9 according to TP. We've been in July a few years back and I remember it being crowded and hot. But I don't think I've been during 8 and 9's. We are a little worried but plan to take this trip slower and know going in we'll have long waits and take afternoon breaks. Hopefully someone will chime in with more info.

We went 3 years ago and it was manageable. It wasn't any more crowded than the June or August we went plus there was less humidity. Went to Epcot on Memorial day and got everything done that we wanted. I'm not sure if the crowd levels have gone up since then or not, but I would go again during that time.

We are going also, our plan is to not expect to get on as many rides, but plan on ordering some food on line, lots of swimming and be there for RD every morning and have made FP plans. We are likely to skip a few rides that have crazy lines...

We'll give it a whirl and see how it goes! At least I was able to snag FPs for all the good rides except for TSMM :) :(. Can anyone share what the lines might be like at TL and BB?

We always go Memorial Day weekend/week. This year is our 4th year in a row, it's our end of school trip.
It's not very crowded at all, as holiday's go that is. A common misconception actually.
Realize, only a portion of the country has gotten out of school by Memorial Day. The portion still in school are too close to the end of the year to take time off for a trip to Disney. Maybe some close by come for a long weekend but most of those are the ones out of school by Memorial Day anyway.
Memorial Day Holiday is really very similar to Labor Day, which is commonly thought to be a good time to go, for the same reason.
Only a portion of the country is out of school for Labor Day. A portion has already gone back to school and it's too close to the start of the school for them to take off for a trip to Disney.

Lines are very reasonable and we even find that we have many days without any rain. It's become our favorite time and why we pick going that week for our summer trip over going just before school starts back. A week in early August is much more crowded, hotter and rainier.

Last year we even went to BB on the Friday before Memorial Day and it was almost dead. It was a clear, blue sky day too, not a cloud in the sky, not too hot, not even too humid. We had a great day and very short lines all over. It was even the first day of their Frozen Summer Fun event, we met Olaf and Kristoff, no waits at all.

We have been to both Disney and Universal around Memorial Day and honestly while it is busy it's not been horrible. Good touring plans, fp's, adr's and rope drop if you can will be your friend. We are heading back in 21 days and will be there right after Memorial Day until June 9, and can't wait!

I just noticed that Touring Plans updated our Epcot day (Memorial Day) to a crowd level 10! :scared:

How is it "not crowded at all" when TP tell us it will be 8's, 9's and 10's? I've never been during 9's and 10's but the 7's and 8's I've been to were extremely crowded. You aren't the first person to say this but I just cannot understand.

Because TP's predictions are just that. Predictions. Educated guesses. Yes, they analyze data and have people looking at it constantly, but at the end of the day, they just don't know exactly what people will do. (No disrespect intended to the folks at TP). Use the information to help manage your expectations and go into the trip with an open mind. The best thing to do is research attractions and come up with a solid plan, then understand that it WILL change. Something WILL happen to throw it off, and just be prepared for it. Know what to do when that happens.

I agree. It’s a little confusing. We usually go to the parks during the summer. So we are used to busy. But we’ve never been on a crowd level 10 day!

This was our experience as well. Not bad at all. Lower crowds beautiful weather. It was busy on the weekend, locals may come for the weekend, then thinned out during the week.

It is the last chance for many area passholders to visit the parks before their summer blackout period start's. Some years it very busy and other years not so much.

We've done Memorial Day week the past 2 years. VERY manageable and perfect weather. Out of both years, we only had rain on 1 afternoon and it wasn't unbearably hot. Even with Pandora opening Memorial Day weekend last year, it wasn't very crowded anywhere else - Pandora was a mob, but everywhere else was just like any other summer day.
