I just signed u for a frequent flyers account with United.

We were in Hawaii the end of Feb since I signed up within 45 days of the the trip they gave me my miles which is about 9500 already in my acount:bounce:

good news so far

they also have a promotion that you can have some transfer their miles into your account!!

I though great my whole family (there were 16 of us) went so I knew someone would let us have their miles!!

now the catch--my parents already said we could have their miles but in order to transfer them theres a $25 procesing fee and a penny a mile (they also have a program that you can buy miles thats also a penny a mile so I dont know if Im missing)

My ? is is it worth it to trasnfer? if Im figuring right theres not much of a difference.

It takes 25000 miles for a free trip we have 9500 differnce to "buy or "transfer"15500
@ a penny a mile that would be $150 plus $25 and then another $50 to buy for the rest (5000)

right now air is about $220

any thoughts or opionion would sure be helpful

I wish air would come down:D

thanks

Looks like you have almost done all the math already, and it's looking like:

Cash is the better deal.
::yes::
Yeah, you could spend nearly $200 at a penny a mile plus $25 fee for a "free" ticket, or you could just buy the tix for $220. Looks like it's a whole lot easier just to buy the tix too. Use you miles for a magazine subscription or something, or just save them and accumulate until you have enough for a real free ticket.

And, yeah, I wish fares would drop below $220, but they don't seem likely to with Oilmen in the White House. More likely they will rise they way fuel prices are going. And I agree that it was nice when all those fare wars were on, but now most major air carriers are near broke, so they can't afford too much more of that, so while there might be some better airfare deals in our future, I am not counting on it. I am just jumping on any fare near $200 and if the fare goes down, I'll take a credit, and if it goes up, I'll already have a cheaper one.
