What to do?

DH and I are seriously considering DVC (I think the math works out for us reasonably well). We have a soon to be 6 year old and soon to be 4 year old. We believe we are likely to head to Disney every year for another 7 years and from there we may move to every other year and have the kids bring a friend or take my niece and nephew.

Right now BLT seems like the best option (MK is our main park at this point) we tend to go in January as the kids are young and we pull them out of school (please no flames).

In a few years I think BCV is a more likely option -- SAB and Epcot are likely to be draws. At this point pulling the kids out of school seems less likely so we would be booking in more peak times.

So ... buying BCV seems to make most sense based on availability and the 11 month window. Does that make sense? I know we give up the extra years on contract (and the points seem like they are a little less as well). Other considerations?

Also I am thinking that we'd buy enough for a 1br now (which is what we'd do with the kids for the next few years) and add enough points for a 2br if that is what we need later for kids with friends etc.

We plan to buy resale. We would pay cash.

Any pointers or guidance (or you forgot about xyz) appreciated.

IMO, you have it figured out. :) Your logic makes sense to me.

Good luck!

Speaking as another Mother who used to enjoy pulling her boys out of school for WDW vacations in off peak times - enjoy it while they are young. When mine hit 6th grade, they could no longer miss a week of school. We now have to travel around the school calendar. We own at BCV, and have been very happy with our choice of home resort. My boys are now 15 and 11, and still love SAB.

Are you my twin?! Your logic and reasoning on so many points totally align with mine! We went through the EXACT same logic when purchasing our DVC contract (via resale and with cash!). The proximity to MK with young kids and closeness to Epcot when they are older...all great points to consider. I think you can't go wrong with either.

DH threw me when we brought in AKL into the mix, and that is where we ended up purchasing. We just thought that the kids would really get a kick out of the animals for a very long time. Giraffes outside your room is pretty cool, no matter what your age is! The cultural aspect of AKL appealed to us, as well, with the art throughout the resort, music, CMs from Africa, etc.

I was so surprised when DH started talking about AKL, but it suddenly made perfect sense (for us). Just wanted to make sure you hadn't overlooked AKL! Have fun deciding, and on all of those future trips :yay:

I think you have considered everything and it works for what you plan to do in the near and not so near future.

I feel the biggest piece in deciding about DVC is thinking it through, which you have done.

The only piece I would add, since you are going resale, is to think about the UY you and be flexible in terms of choosing one that would allow for the most flexibility for the current Jan trips as well as the summer trips down the road.

I think both Dec and June UY's would work out well.

Good luck!

I think you have thought it thoroughly. I would recommend that you always make a reservation at your home resort at 11 months for your vacation and then at 7 months try to switch to another resort. The beginning of January for the Disney marathon and Martin Luther King weekend are very popular times so switching might not be as easy as we hope it will be.

Good luck and let us know when join the DVC.
