What to do???

We are taking a day off during our 8 days at Disney. We have Chef Mickey scheduled in the afternoon, but we are looking for ideas to do on our day off of the parks. We have been to DTD and it was fun, but we are looking for something maybe away from the parks. I know there are some great ideas out there, so throw some my way. You guys are the best!!!

I am planning a day at the beach for my family (mainly a RR day for me )
We live near the Atlantic Ocean in NC so I am planning on going to Clearwater Beach on the Gulf, the water is supposed to be super clear and not so rough. WDW is closer to the Atlantic side, but I still want to go to the Gulf, which is about 2 hours away. My DH also wants to go to Kennedy Space Center, we might do that the day after we arrive, not sure yet.

I agree that you need a "non park day"

We have an 8yr old and 10 yr old. We won't tell them we are going until the day we leave. (or maybe when we get there ha ha). We know they will get tired going 3 or 4 days without a break. We will take a break during the day to go back to the campsite to rest and relax, but taking a break mid vacation sounds like a good idea to us.

All of our “off” time we spend either at FW or touring another resort. FW has so much to do you could spend days having fun there. Rent a power boat, pontoon boat, go horseback riding, take archery lessons, visit the beach, spend time at the pool, take a tour of the stables, go to the campfire sing along/movie at night, ride around the loops and check other people’s RVs and decorations out. Take a boat to the Contemporary and ride the monorail to the Poly and GF. Have lunch at WL. Go mini golfing (short way away). Lots of fun things to do and I have only mentioned some.

Ditto to all those who suggested enjoying some downtime at the Fort. There are lots of activities to keep you busy. We took the boat to WL and had breakfast by the pool (we also enjoyed a quick dip). We then went back to the Fort, rented a kayak, went to the pool, played checkers on the porch at the Trading Post, etc. Just a nice relaxing day. At night we took a cooler down to the beach with some wine coolers (no kids on our trip) and watched the fireworks and the boat parade. Boy, how I wish we were there NOW!! I am sure you will enjoy whatever you do decide to do!

My vote would be for a Fort day! There is so much to do and enjoy there. And at the end of the day, you're not exhausted.

I have to suggest Medieval Times! Great show, fantastic food, and an all around good time.

However, I personally wouldn't want to leave Disney World property, you lose the magic, and have to deal with the ugly real world! We've taken days off from the parks, and we look around at other resorts when we do that; spend some time on the boardwalk or Downtown Disney, or hang out at Fort Wilderness. Go fishing!

Hangin' at the Fort with case of beer and/or several pitchers of Kungaloosh is my idea of an Eden-esque day!

This is my clan's first time staying at FW. We've rented three cabins and are actually assuming that we'll be spending a LOT of time hanging at the resort as opposed to the parks every day. We have friends who stayed at FW a few weeks ago and they said the kids loved the whole experience so much that aside from the Magic Kingdom, they were happiest just hanging at the park, going to see the horses, playing on the beach, etc.

One thing we're planning to do on a "down day" is head over to the Polynesian. They have hula dancing lessons and I thought the kids would love that. So while the kids (2, 4 and 6) are doing that with their mom and dad, the rest of us are going to hit that gorgeous little pool bar down by the water!

If you're going during warm weather, how about a day at Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon.

During our trips in the past, we would always try to spend at least one day at one of the water parks...

A Fort day at the pool. We loved the pool at FW. Its nice with a water slide the kids never wanted to leave it. Also horse back riding there

i like walking around the boardwalk. it isn't the easiest place to get to but, you will eventually get there.

As mentioned above, there are many things to do at the Fort including boating, kayaking, horseback riding, bicycling, hanging out at the beach, or swimming at one of FW's two pools (or swim in both if you like!). You might even consider fishing! End the day with a visit to the HDDR

If you want to leave WDW there is always Gatorland, Central Florida's best 1/2 day attraction! Be sure to check out the "Jumparoo" show. Where else could you see gators jumping for food!

Weds the 3rd there will be a large rocket taking off at Cape Canaveral at 6:19 - 7:19 pm. It had been postponed but should be good to go tomorrow, wednesday. I've never seen in person, a real rocket take off. Can't wait.
