What to do with unused DVC points

I have 30 DVC points that will expire at the end of July - other than a weekend trip to WDW or banking - any other ideas of what can be done with them? :confused3

Since tou mentined banking, I am assuming they are not Developers Points. If they are Developers Points, you can not transfer them to anither member, but you can rent them. Personally, I would bank them. You may need them in the future to take guests or to exend your own vacation.

I'd definitely bank them - you still have until March 31. That extends their use for an additional year and you may be better able to use them (or rent a reservation made using those points to someone else). Of course, if they have already been banked, they cannot be banked again and could only be used to make a reservation prior to July 31 or transferred to another member.

Good luck! :)

You could mess with people and randomly give other members a point.

Not sure if they would appreciate it or not, but the responses would be interesting.

Okay, I'm new to all of this, and I've been reading these posts like a crazy person trying to get caught up, but I don't think I knew about this.

We just bought into AKV onboard the Wonder in February. We got a full set (270) of Developer Points (plus a full RCI week). The downside is, as you know, the Developer points have to be used by October 3. The catch for us is that my wife, as a physician, already has her schedule completed through the end of August, and I can't get away in September (end of fiscal year nonsense). Our closing date was last Thursday (3/19), and we spent an hour on the phone with DVC trying to figure out someplace to go on the week my wife already had off (which, poor planning on our part, was the week after Easter). So we're being forced to go to Cancun for a week next month... :confused3

However, the story just got more interesting, because the week at Cancun is only going to eat up half of our points, leaving us with 136 that we may not get to use before they expire in early October. But now I'm hearing that we can maybe put those up for rent? Hmmm...

You should certainly review the "How to Use This Board" and "Posting Rules" threads at the top of the Rent/Trade Board. You have a very good opportunity to rent a reservation made using those Developer Points (and maybe a few regular points) before the October 3 deadline.

Sorry to hear you have to go to Cancun. :teeth: Have a great trip! :)

You can only do one transfer in or out a year. So only one member could get a point.

Can someone help me understand how you can only transfer in/out once a year. I looked all over the dvcmember site and got nowhere. I'm thinking about selling my extra points and could use the advice....thanks in advance.

You will need to review the current Member Guide/POS for details of the nuances of using DVC. Currently, there is a limit of one transfer - either into or out of you account - per Use Year. DVC does periodically modify many policies and that was the situation here. Until summer 2006 MS was allowing multiple transfers per Use Year (again only in one direction) and that was also a change from the original 1991 policy where only one transfer was allowed per Use Year.

Other policies that have been changed over the years include banking deadlines (all banking must be done during the first 8 months of your Use Year), members cannot make reservations and travel for non-DVC options during the last 4 months of your Use Year, and reservations may now be made 11/7 months from the day of arrival for up to 7 nights with one call to MS.

Other policies which could be changed without member input include the owner Home Resort Reservation priority (currently a 4 month advantage over other owners) which could be reduced to as little as a one month advantage where non-owner members could make reservations at 10 months plus current banking and borrowing policies could be suspended or eliminated. As we were all reminded recently, DVC can also reallocated the points charts as they deem necessary. This has now happened twice - once for OKW in 1996 and again for OKW, VB, HH, BWV, VWL, BCV, SSR, AKV and BLT for 2010.

Stay Tuned! :)

I have another quick question about points. I have 160 points I was thinking about banking to next year. We plant to visit BLT Oct. 2010 for a 6 night pre cruise stay. If I book at the 11 month window would I need to have points in my account or since it is a 2010 booking do the points come from the 2010 allotment? In other words if I bank my points now for next year when I make the ressie is Nov will they use the banked points?

Tough break about having to go to Cancun.... :lmao: :rotfl:
Could you use your remaining DPs for a trip through RCI for some time next year? I believe you could also extend the use of your DPs by putting your points on deposit at RCI...

The points need to be available for the dates of travel, so if travel falls within your 2011 use year, the poins have to be available in your 2011 use year at the time of booking.

It all depends on your UY. But they do usually use the banked points first. You can always remind them about the banked points.
