What to do with points?

So my parents suck at this whole planning thing apparently. They have around ** points that will expire by ** if they don't use them. We're going to Italy in Oct and can't afford another vacation this year. Had I known they had so many points to burn, I would have used them to book the hotel in Rome. Guess I still could, but my dad's very against changing our current plans.

They tried booking a hotel in WDW for my cousin, but nothing's available for the dates he can go.

What's the best way to not let these precious points go to waste?

You don't say exactly when they will expire so I don't know if you are in your "last four months". If your dad has so many points "to burn" did he only check dvc availability for your family member or the other hotels on property you could use your points on as well?

Are all going to expire or can some of those be banked??

Did you think about posting them on the rent/trade board?

How about scheduling a trip with RCI, if you are in a use it or loose it situtation. You can schedule the trip for some time next year using this years' points.
