So I apologize as this isn't really Disney related (even though a lot of the magazines are Disney Adventure!)

But I'm cleaning out my room ... getting rid of things that are just sitting around and collecting dust.. and I discovered a TON of magazines. Teen, Seventeen, YM, Time, Disney Adventure.. etc.. a few hundred at least.

Is there anything to do other than throw them away? I really don't know what to do... any advice is helpful, thanks!

Do you have a recycle center in your area? That is what I do. All my catalogs, magazines, and the covers of my TV guides. Also all the kid magazines you have, you might want to see if you have a Ronald McDonald house in your area and take them over there, just a thought.

Hospital or Dr office waiting rooms. I know they are much appreciated in our town.
Just go to the front desk in the reception area and ask them if they are interested.
I'm sure they will jump at them.

Try your local schools, day cares, or drop in play groups. Mags are great for kids to cut pics from for many different crafts, including collages. Our school has used them for general crafts, specific projects like nutrition etc. You do have to watch the content a bit (ex. any war pictures in Time), but the kids ones for sure.

Hi. I just started to do the same thing. My sister inlaw said that she is going to start looking after her two neices plus she has 3 young girls. So I am going through all my Family Fun magazines and sorting into months, then somehow binding each month together.Hope she will enjoy them.I still love the magazine but my two daughters are 13 and 16, and I can still look at them on the net.

I take mine up to the local ER - people have to wait hours there sometimes and its nice to have mags to flip thru. I keep a laundry basket in the pantry of mags. When its full, time for a trip to the ER.

Mine all go in the recycle bin. I get so many over half go in teh recycle bin without even being read.

I sometimes sell mine or trade them at the used book store in town. Hosp and DR's are great places as well as schools and daycares.

I myself try never to buy new books or magazines seems to be such a waste to me read them once and done with them usually. The exception there are a few magazines that has recipes or crochet patterns.

Mom just loaned me a book that is over 50 yrs old that has the crochet pattern she used for my baby layette I'm goin to use it for my new grandbaby. Sent the book to work with DD so she can copy the pattern as it's starting to fall apart.

:rotfl: sorry, this struck me as funny.

In our county, we're required to recycle old magazines & catalogs rather than throw them out. If they are really old, I would do that.

You can remove the mailing labels and bring them to your local hospital. They will put them in their waiting rooms

I work at a psychiatric hospital so I remove all my address labels and bring them into work. There never seems to be enough reading material for the patients. And I know the teen magazines would be appreciated on the adolescent unit. Evenif they are old or outdated the recreation therapist often has the teens use the pictures for crafts and collages.

Check with your local library too. Our library has a shelf where they put all their magazines subscriptions once the new month has arrived as well as letting people donate their old magazines to that shelf. Then people can just look through the shelf and pick and choose what they would like to take for free. Its a nice way to read magazines that you don't get yourself without having to pay for them.

I take the magainzes we do subscribe to there when I am finished and then when I take home ones from the library I read those and usually end up taking them back as well when I accumulate a pile.

Is there a Half Price Bookstore near you? You can take them there and they resell them. We also have a local restaurant "Kings" and they have a book/magazine sale in their lobby every so often. You can always sell them at a yard sale too.
