What to do with nice camera?

We are planning a trip to DLR in June, for our first trip since 2006. I now have a Canon Rebel, a nice camera I didn't have before. Always before I would put my camera in my "super-stylin' " fanny pack, but the Canon Rebel will not fit in there. I don't mind carting it around some, but there are some places you simply can't bring it. What should I do with it during those times? Are the lockers very safe? The camera is expensive, and it makes me nervous to just leave it in a locker. But this trip is the one I've been waiting for, to use this camera. On a previous trip, my ds was kissing JoJo on the nose, and I couldn't get the shot, because my old digital camera has that maddening pause after each picture. This camera doesn't have that, and I am so looking forward to taking some nice, quality pictures.

I'm not very experienced with it. Anyone have a recommendation on which lense to use during the parade? I would like to get one or two more lenses before we go on our trip.

I have a couple large cameras and they go with me everywhere, so I am no quite sure where you can not take them. You just have to get used to carrying them around.
If you have time, let us know where you can't go we may have better suggestions.
The lockers do work well though for storage if you need to leave it.

I think the lockers would work well, but would be a pain. Are you going to have a second camera or is that just it? I hate not having my camera on me, because of course the time I don't have it is when I need it! I would get a nice neck strap (as stylin as it is!) and carry it around. I would never leave it unattended in a stroller, etc. guests at disney tend to have sticky fingers!

I have a nice Nikon D40 and I carry it in a camera bag in a medium sized backpack, when its not around my neck. I haven't had any trouble fitting the backpack on rides with me.

I am the official mule at DL. I get to carry all the necesseites.

We went to Disneyland last week and I carried my Rebel XT with me in a backpack the entire time. I love having it with me at all times since you never know when that "perfect" photo moment is going to happen.

I accidentally left the backpack and camera in our stroller when we went to meet Jack Sparrow. My ds is a HUGE fan and it killed me to miss that photo.

I carry my Nikon D80 with me everywhere and haven't found a place yet that didn't allow it. During the day I will switch between my 70-300VR and 18-55 f/2.8 depending on the type of shots I'm trying to get. Although I have my Lowepro Slingshot 200 bag on my back, my camera is always around my neck and ready for the next shot. At night, it gets easier since I know I won't be using the big zoom so that and my bag usually will go into a locker which has always worked fine for me.

As far as lenses for the parades, that also depends on what you're looking for in your shots. During daytime parades, I personally like to get those up close shots for interesting expressions. But, most shots overall will be at a wider angle. For shots at nightime parades, I don't use a flash so I'll choose my faster lenses that open up to an aperture of f/1.8 or f/2.8. I use Nikon gear so I'm not real familiar with what all is available in Canon's lineup. A good Nikon lens for versatility is the 18-135mm which is typically sold as a kit lens. I'm sure Canon has some sort of equivalent.

I also carry my camera with me, at all times. I can't think of anyplace where iit's been a problem. I just carry in on my shoulder. On rides, I either put it in my purse, or messenger bag, or hold it on my lap. Frequently I use it to take pix on rides. :goodvibes

If you want to put it in the lockers, I'm sure they'll be safe.

Only place I didn't take my camera was on Grizzly, and that's b/c I got my leg soaked the time before b/c I was protecting my purse/camera bag with my poncho, thereby exposing my leg.

Last time I found the free lockers to the side of Grizzly, so I plunked everything in there. The machine tells you what locker you get and what the code is to come back one time (not the same code all day), and it's a limited time that's free. Quite brilliant.

I brought my camera on everything else, though!

I got a Cannon Rebel for Christmas this year! We took it with us on our DL trip right after Christmas and I ended up going to Best Buy when we were there to buy a better bag because, as you said, I was not used to having such a large camera. I got the Slingshot 200 AW by Lowepro. It is a sling backpack type camera bag. It has all the compartments for the camera stuff, but we just used it for the few camera items we had, plus our video camera, and other small items we bring into DL. It worked really well and the bag is not too big. You can sling it to the front of you to get the camera out easily, etc... I usually end up wearing the camera around my neck mostly, but then when we're doing a bunch of rides, I put it away. :)
