What to do with extra ticket?

I purchased a Park Hopper for someone who is now not coming. I believe there is a no refund policy. Is there a resale broker who I can use?

Disney tickets state clearly that they are not for re-sale, non-transferable, and non-refundable. Check the expiration date on your ticket. It may be good until your next trip. Even if it expires before your next trip, you can use it toward a new ticket if the price has gone up. Present the old ticket at the booths and the CM will only ask you to pay the difference in price toward a new ticket. If there are special circumstances, you can call Guest Services to explain and to ask if they will refund your ticket. Each case is handled individually, so you may or may not get a refund. But it can't hurt to ask.

I would be very surprised if Disney gives you any kind of refund. A few years back, we were on vacation to DLR. My husband took a terrible fall and wound up in the ICU for three days. I asked Disney for a refund on his ticket. All I got was the standard answer that they do not give refunds. I can understand if they do not refund just because the ticket will not be used, but I would have thought they would have made an exception for a situation like ours. Maybe it would have been different if he had fallen while in DLR. But still, their lack of sympathy was sad.

I had purchased two 2-day child tickets as a surprise gift for someone who could've really used them. Turns out they got an even better offer and finally got to take an epic Disneyland trip. Unfortunately, that meant I had two tickets (and we had So Cal APs). I tried to ask for a refund, and got a firm no.

It ended up working out anyways. My dad and I took a impromptu father/daughter trip and while I used my AP, I took one of those children's tickets and was able to upgrade it to an adult ticket for him. And I'm holding onto the other one for myself, as I'm dead set on doing a solo trip and I'm thinking it'll need to be over a weekend when my AP is blocked, so I plan on doing the same with that ticket and upgrading to an adult ticket.

I know it's a bummer, but hopefully you can figure out a way to use it in the future.

Call the AP hotline to ask about this. We've been able to apply unused tickets toward an AP renewal in the past, but I've heard from other posters that this is no longer allowed. Some people have posted that unused tickets can be used to purchase a new AP, but not a renewal. Can't hurt to check. Also, at least try calling to ask about a refund. We asked about this several years ago, spoke with a helpful CM, and received a full refund. So it can happen, but each case is different and there are no guarantees.

Just a thought -- how about donating it to a charity? Check with your accountant, of course, but I suspect you can deduct it from your taxable income.

Does the ticket have a name attached to it when it was purchased? I need to purchase one for next weekend . When are you going?

As stated above, Disney tickets are not for resale. Even without a name attached to the ticket, it would be best for you to purchase your ticket from an authorized vendor, e.g. Disney, AAA, a travel agent, etc. For multi day tickets, there are sites that offer discounts, e.g. aRes Travel. For a one day ticket, go to the DLR website to purchase your ticket. Print it out and head straight to the turnstiles when you visit.
