What to do with diaper bag?

Can someone please tell me what you do with the diaper bag when you are at the parks? We are leaving this week with our 16 month old. Do you leave the diaper bag in the stroller while you are doing rides or do you bring it with you?

Thanks

We always left the diaper bag in the stroller. Never had a problem with anyone taking it. We would usually tie the strap to the side of the stroller, just to make it tougher to walk off with it in case anyone might be feeling like stealing a load of dirty diapers :)) Usually bring a snack and some wipes in line with us just in case somebody blarped or got hungry. Or both... Must have been to Disney about 30 times with the diaper bag and never ever brought it on a ride with us.

What I used to do when our DD was still in diapers is put her things in a few ziploc bags and then put them in a backpack with the other stuff we needed for the day. When we'd get to a park I'd take the ziploc bags out and put them in the stroller basket and just leave them there until we needed them. The backpack with the camera, money etc would then come on the rides with us.

I've been bringing diaper bags to the parks for the last 5 years. As long as I didn't have any valuables in the bag, I've left it in the stroller a few times and not had a problem. With DS (now 6) I brought a TON of stuff in the diaper bag and needed the HUGE Lands End one plus a bag for all our (DH and my) stuff. I've brought less and less each trip and now we're down to one small sized backpack (the kind with the strings for straps). We carry a couple of diapers and travel container of wipes, the changing pad from the trusty 'ol Lands End bag, a change of clothes for DD, her disposable sippy cup, and sunscreen. It also holds my camera and her sneakers which she refuses to wear. :rolleyes2 I feel more comfortable bringing the bag with me on the rides, maybe I'm getting cynical in my old age. I really only bring the bare minimum of supplies as we're NEVER at the park for more than 4-5 hours at a time, if that long. If there was a diapering emergency or spill of some kind that required more supplies than I have, I know I can always purchase them if I need to.

On our first trip we stayed off site and did not go back to our resort mid-day so we brought a lot of stuff with us. We left the "baby supplies" in the stroller basket and just carried the bare essentials (small toy, bottle, pacifier) for our then 13-mos old ds with us in line. We were also more comfortable with bringing less stuff by then. The last trip we stayed on site and knew that if we really needed something badly, the resort wasn't that far away, so I just put the essentials in smallish backpack and took the whole thing on the rides with us. Really, the baby care centers also carry the essentials, if you're having an emergency you can usually find whatever you need there.

We only bring as much as we can carry with us on the rides-which is whatever fits into my small tote bag. (And dh carries our small camera bag.) In Feb. we witnessed someone discover their bag had been stolen off of their stroller. :( They had been parked in Fantasyland near the Carrousel.

Anyway, I only bring a couple diapers and some wipes in a ziploc bag, some antibacterial hand wipes, some tissues, a small bag of snacks, and a sippy cup. And also some medication for my 3 yr old who has allergies and asthma. BTW, we have 3 sons who are 5, 3 and 1. I don't feel the need to bring much stuff with us into the parks. :)

I use 2 bags. One is attached to my stroller that has the change of clothes, extra wipes, extra diapers, extra bottle, snacks. I wear a second bag in line. Usually a small diaper bag filled with a couple diapers, wipes, snacks, wallet, keys, cell phone, one bottle. I'd be diappointed, but not too upset if my bag left with the stoller was stollen. I never leave anything expensive in here. I'm usually a light packer, but for a day at Disney, my shoulder can't carry the loaded down bag.

Thanks so much for the responses. I was really hoping that people would say that they leave the diaper bag in the stroller. I am going to bring my spare diaper bag, so that way I could really care less if it did disappear. I have no plans with stocking it with any valuables, just the bare essentials (diapers, wipes, sippy cup, extra change of clothes, snacks etc.). We are also planning on going back to our room mid-day so no big deal.

The babies bag, I left in the stroller...if anyone wanted to take it then all they'd get is a bunch of stinky clothes and diapers! :)

I always left ours in the stroller. Nothing of great value was ever in it, just baby needs (wipes, diapers, etc). And then over the top of the diaper bag was usually a baby blanket. The really important things went with us. I can't imagine hauling everything everywhere just to ride one ride. But everything was easily replaceable, just in case.

Thanks for posting this topic. We use cloth diapers, so the idea of someone swiping our diaper bag is truly horrifying...we'll have at least $100 worth of Disney diapers in there! :earseek:

I think I will follow your lead and take an inexpensive "backup bag" JIC...that way no one would be tempted to take the bag itself.

I plan on bringing a backpack instead of a diaper bag and bringing it on the rides with me.

I bring a tiny purse (like 4" x 4") to carry my wallet, tickets & camera in, and I leave the diaper bag in the stroller. Never had a problem (even at other parks besides Disney).

I think I'll take a backup inexpensive bag to leave on the stroller too. Wallet and a few other important things etc. I plan on putting in a tiny knapsack I'll wear all the time. :)

We have a small softsided cooler that is just the right size and shape to fit on a stroller or wheelchair. We've used it until it is ratty, but I can't find another one like it. It has a large zippered section in the front big enough for diapers, baby food, and a change of clothes. Inside we put the babe's drinks along with sodas and water for ourselves.

We've always just left it unattended when going into rides and shows and never had a problem.

We discovered that the few diapers we needed and a few wipes fit into a large sized fanny pack - though I still ended up with a backpack for the jackets, water, fruit snacks, etc....

Last trip my ds was only 5 months so we had a lot of "baggage". I used a backpack diaper bag (lands end had a great one) and because I also kept my wallet, etc. in it we brought it on rides, etc. and it was pretty easy to deal with.

This trip ds is now 2 and while still in diapers I don't feel like we need to bring EVERYTHING with us when we go out so I am using one of these to keep in the basket in the bottom of the stroller....

And then I will use a small tote/purse for my wallet, phone, a few snacks, etc.

Our DS is 3 1/2 now and has needed less and less each time at WDW. Now adays we may take an extra shirt and a couple of juice boxes. Most thieves are extremely observant and don't just indiscriminantly take diaper bags.... they look for the expensive camera or the wallet after buying a soda being stuffed in them, they then wait for an opportunity to take it. We never took our diaper bag with us on the rides but made sure we took the camera or camcorder with us. We now use a backpack with an open netting side so a thief can easily see that there's nothing to steal and it speeds up the security searches at the gates. :smooth:

This has always worked out the best -- you can toss it in the stroller basket when you have the stroller and just slip it on your back when you're going on rides -- and both your hands are free, and you can bend over without anything slipping off your shoulder.

But be warned -- everyone else in your party will try and slip things into it !

Lots of companies now make backbacks that have all the paraphenalia that is included in the shoulder diaper bags. I picked one up at babies r us that actually looks like a black nylon purse/backpack -- it doesn't scream "diaper bag" at all.

Thanks for this thread. This will be our first trip for us with our DD who will be 8mo. I was just looking online today for a good diaperbag for us to take. DH is buying the Mountainsmith lumbar bag for the adult things like, camera, tickets, water bottles, ect. I think I am going to take the Skip Hop diaper bag www.skiphop.com that hangs on the stroller and keep the "baby things" in that while we go on rides. I am just going to hope that itdoesn't get stollen along with the stroller :guilty:
