what to do with buttons?

I could swear I saw on here once that someone posted they take the buttons they get in DL (like 1st visit, bday, etc) and turn them into magnents. I really want to do this but can't figure out how. I've tried googling how to turn a button into a magnent, and several variations of that. I also tried looking at JoAnns for something like a magnent making kit.

Any ideas on how to do this? Or maybe another suggestions with what to do with my buttons? I'd like to be able to display them.

You can buy magnet sheets. Like fridge magnet thickness that can be cut. I'm surprised you didn't see them at Micheal's because that is where I would check.

You can do magnets, DD11 has a bunch but they aren't magnets, she just put them on a cork board with other stuff she wants to keep. :)

Magnet sheets can be found in most craft stores, if you can't find them ask for help. :) You just cut to fit and glue them on. :)

When we went on our Disney Cruise, I wanted to decorate our cabin door - something that is talked about quite a bit on the cruise line section of DIS. DCL has made the doors magnetic so people turn everything and anything into magnets to display on the doors (no tape allowed).

In my clueless venture to figure out how to do this I found magnetic tape at Michaels. It's pretty cool stuff. Also, magnetic dots. They are sticky on one side and magnetic on the other.

Michaels had essentially three options:
- magnetic tape (like scotch tape, but magnetic on one side)
- magnetic sheets (same as tape, but in big rectangles that you can cut as needed)
- magnetic dots

Interestingly enough, Home Depot had some of the above as well. :goodvibes

- Dreams

So love this idea! We have a whole mess of buttons from our last trip

2 I'm Celebrating
1 first visit
1 birthday
3 Minnies & friends breakfast
3 Storytellers breakfast
3 mickey's surfs up breakfast
3 honarary citizen of toon town

So I have been trying to figure out what to do with them all as they are great souvineers. I used 1 of each of the breakfast buttons glued to frames along with other embellishments to frame a pic from each breakfast but I still have plenty to make magnets with.

Any other ideas anyone?

What a great idea! You can buy REALLY strong magnets at JoAnns and Michaels and then use something like E6000 glue (which you can buy at the same stores) to glue the magnet to the back. The catch, of course, is making sure the curved back of the pin doesn't curve so much that the magnet won't touch the fridge. I'll try it and report back--I think I have extra pins from our last trip.

I know you don't have children (I read your trip report last night) but if you do go this route, the magnets are REALLY strong and are dangerous for children if they get ahold of the loose magnets--they aren't toys! Make sure they're attached really really well and don't let children play with loose magnets--keep in mind those scary news stories from the past of children swallowing magnets and tearing holes in their insides.

Thanks for the idea! Just finished making a set tonight

You can see/read how I did it in my trip report :thumbsup2

We bought some disc magnets to superglue to the back of some buttons, and found this very thing to be the problem. The buttoms are concave inside and the magnets didn't stick out far enough to touch the fridge. So we improvised and glued a "stack" of three pennies inside the back of the button, and then glued the magnet to the pennies. Worked like a charm. We just used regular superglue and they've held for years.

No problem...

"Breakfast w/ Minnie" ::MinnieMo is the yellow one w/ Minnie on it. These were in a basket for the taking at the check in at the front of Plaza Inn.
"Surf's Up w/ Mickey" :earsboy: is the one on the top left corner. The CM working our table brought these to us when he came to take our drinks order.
"MTTMM" :mickeyjum is the bottom left blue one. They handed these out during MTTMM.
Right above that is the "1st Visit" :welcome: (yellow w/ the fab 5). Got that at check in in the hotel, but also saw them handing them out at Guest Services.
Next to that is a "Celebrating" :bday: (green w/ Mickey's hand holding a bouquet of Mickey balloons). Also got it at check in (it was my sister's birthday); again also saw them at Guest Services.
"Ariel's Grotto" princess: is the blue one w/ the princesses in the upper right corner. They brought them to our table at the end of our meal.
"Goofy's Kitchen" is underneath that (yellow w/ Goofy in the middle). Actually had to return to Goofy's later in the week bc they never offered us any and I didn't think to ask :headache:...one of the CMs in the concierge lounge commented that she thought we had all the buttons and wanted to know if we were going to go to Goofy's...when I told her we already had, she offered to try to get one for us :goodvibes, but I decided to get them myself...gave me an excuse to ride the monorail and see the DH again ;).
"Critter Breakfast/Storyteller's Cafe" :squirrel: is the bottom right green one. They had these piled on the counter for the taking near the omelet station.

We also have a purple/blue "Happily Ever After" that we got from a nice lady at Innoventions :goodvibes, an "Honorary Citizen" :earsboy: with a key (I'm 99% certain it came from the CM who chose the princess: to open the park, although I don't remember him handing it to us, just having it after we walked away, lol...that whole experience was super exciting and a little unreal :cloud9:) and a couple of slightly smaller DVC buttons (one w/ Mickey surfing and one w/ a resort name) from the CMs at the kiosks (they were always stopping us to compliment the princess:s button collection, since we had displayed it on her stroller)...but the princess: only got one each of those, and I didn't want to do anything permanent w/ them until we have decided about what to do to display her buttons in her room...

Here's a pic of the buttons on the trip:

I will try to take a better pic of the magnets (night time take-it-quick w/ flash created some not so visible shots, lol) and post it later...

Would you mind listing what each of those buttons are and where they are from? I only recognize about half.

Thanks, and thanks also if you try to post some more. I'm always interested in these buttons because it's Disney swag.

Now that I see them clearly I got most of these on our trip too except the princesses which I assume is from Ariel's? and the Goofy's one which we also got stiffed on... It was our first meal and did not know we were supposed to get buttons... wish I had thought of going back for them!

Now I'm rethinking what a good ideas it was to get a stainless steel fridge that nothing sticks too. :headache:
