What to do with $600 at Disney?

I had $600 worth of rewards on my Barclay Card that I was planning to use to pay for camp. I paid my $600 camp fee and then went to take it off...and they won't count it as travel. How is camp not travel?

Now I have 2 choices:

1) Take a $300 statement credit instead of $600 travel rewards OR

2) Spend $600 at Disney next week, charge to my room, and have it taken off.

We already have the DDP and Memory Maker, so do you think tips and incidentals for 10 days will add up to $600??

I'm nearly crying...when I paid that $600 to camp, I thought it would be erased. I've called and even escalated it, though, and camp is NOT travel.

We used $390 in rewards money for tips, alcohol, and other extras during our 5.5-day trip in March. So, $600 is not unreasonable. You could always book a spa treatment or massage!

Well- we had the Deluxe Dining Plan for a week and racked up around 450.00 in regards to tips and a Disney blanket (unexpected purchase due to random drop in temps. at the park) so it is possible to get close to that.

We are not the souvenir type at all but I bet you could get to $600 easy if you are.

You could add on a tour or some other activity you've never done before that costs additional, if it fits in to your plans?

What about your travel expenses to get to WDW?
Car rental?
Have you called Disney to see if they can credit the card you used originally, and then charge to the Barclay card? I doubt they will do it, but it's worth a try.

can you purchase gift cards on a room charge ?

If so, apply the $600 to your room, do your regular shopping, expenses, tips, etc. With whatever you have left over, purchase Disney Gift cards to tuck away for future trips.

Or : Do all your Christmas shopping ?

Will restaurant purchases be classified as travel though? It might be classified as dining and you can't use the reward.

Do you have any friends or family members who are Disney fans and might want to send a little money along so you can do some shopping for them? I live close enough to the parks that people often ask me to pick up park exclusive merchandise for them.

If you're an e-bayer you could also go that route with merchandise. Although that could be risky because you might not break even after all the fees, unless you find something that's really in demand.

Yeah, that news pretty much ruined my day. I hadn't budgeted for camp because I thought it would be erased from my credit card statement.

We were planning to do a Star Wars character meal anyway, so I guess that'll eat up some of the money. I'm just bummed. It's not like we don't have it in savings, but we wanted to keep that money there!

Yes, we used my husband's card to pay for part of our package (including hotel, tickets, etc). You just need to make sure the charge is how many points you have.

For instance, if you have enough points for a $400 credit you can't charge $450 and have $400 erased and pay $50. You need to do 2 separate charges; one for $400 (to be erased) and one for $50.

We do this on DCL ships when we have more onboard credits than we can spend. Also would something like a Southwest airline gift card be considered travel?
I can't stand to just spend for the sake of spending. At least if you buy Disney or airline gift cards, they could be applied to a future trip and you'd know it wasn't just pissed away on frivolous purchases.

Holiday and birthday gifts for friends and family. A few boxes of candy, special soaps from Basin, special cigars for the cigar smoker in the family gifts from the Harley Davidson store. There are lots of non Disney specific items that are special yet meaningful that you can pick up at DTD.

Wonder what the cc company would do if you booked a new WDW reservation (months out) and made a deposit in the amount of your rewards.
Then pay off the deposit with your rewards.
A few months later, cancel the WDW reservation, and get the credit back on your cc.

Do you think they would negate the rewards that had been credited by taking your WDW refund, or would they leave it on there as a credit that could pay for some of your other cc charges at that time?

OP, I sent you a PM about this. Barclaycard Arrival has increased the perks for this card as of today. May want to see if your camp is accepted for reimbursement now.
