What do you guys do when you get a scrapper in a trade with a CM? I am going in Sept and plan on doing alot of trading. But if you trade with a CM and you think its a scrapper what should you do.

If when you are trading you realize it is a scrapper can you tell the CM and get your pin back? Or should you wait find another CM and trade it with them? Throw out the fake? Just wondering what people do?

It depends on what you want the pin for. I am always happy with my CM trades because I trade for pins I like and want to keep for my display.

If you think you may trade the pin again, you can go back and tell the CM that you think the pin is a scrapper. I'm sure they would trade you back. Personally, I wouldn't bother.

I have a very hard time telling which pins are scrappers (unless they are junky looking) without looking at PinPics or comparing them to another pin like it.

While you don't want to contribute to the problem by bringing a bunch of scrappers into the parks, I recommend not being too worried about getting a scrapper or two from trades with cast members. HAVE FUN! That's my favorite part!

Well it depends on why I'm doing the trade. Of course I'd rather NOT have scrappers but it's inevitable that you will get them. We have given them back to CM's when in doubt, or just asked if you can look before you trade, every CM we've asked has had no problems taking the suspect pin back or letting us look at the back. We've even let CM's know why we feel they are bad.....some simply don't care but a lot of times the CM's have put the suspect pin in their pocket so they don't circulate them. If I'm trying to get a full "legit" set I'll go for all real pins, if it's something I just like I'll keep them. We have a TON of scrappers in our collections.....but when we like them we keep them.

When I trade for pins and there are color panels missing or they are very heavily damaged, sometimes I'll just ask to keep my pin. Everyone has been really nice about it. I would imagine that they would be nice about scrapper pins too, if they understand what a scrapper pin is. I think it just has a lot to do with treating people nicely. Most cast members are very friendly and understanding.

If any pin is defective, I would point it out to the CM, and hopefully they will remove it from their lanyard. I can't tell you how many missing dangles and doo dads I have seen.
And there are so many scrappers out there on CM lanyards, they are extremely common. If you do any trading, you will get some.
If it really bothers you, trade it back. I know I have some. And for just sticking in a book, I really don't care. Not thrilled about it. But it gets it out of circulation too.

I got a scrapper in a trade with a CM last August. I still have it. In March, my nephew received a scrapper in a trade from a CM also. Both pins are known for being copied.

I'd simply tell the CM it looks like a scrapper for the specific reasons, so hopefully they'll "retire" the pin. I've recently come across a few pins in my collection that I recieved via PinPics or from CM trading in years past that are scrappers. In that case, I'll just throw them away. But if I notice right away that its a scrapper, I think its best to inform the CM. I look at it as my way of educating them because I'm sure they'd rather not deal with fakes.

If I get a scrapper from a cm it is because I liked the pin to start with. I do have some in my collection, and they all are on one board. I do feel like I get the short end of the stick, money wise, at times, but as with anything get what you like and don’t sweat the small stuff.

Moved back to Mom's house last year and pins are packed away. Now planning a trip and will need to dig them out. I am sure there are some scappers on my board....but I really like each and every pin on it. Guess I won't examine them for scrappers and love them for who they are. I will not trade scrappers because I personally feel it is up to "us" to help get them out of the parks so I try and do my part. I hate to see anyone, kid or adult, get scammed. I have had some people want to trade a rack pin for a LE or something special. Gee....watched them get escorted out of the park later. Karma....a lovely thing!

Mom (who is 68) does not trade and seems to be a mark for scammers. She just says (wait...I have to ask my children) then the 42 year old and the 47 year old show up. scammer scrams.

OK, my understanding is that a scrapper is a pin that was legitimately produced, but something was wrong and it was supposed to be disposed of. But then someone chooses to abscond with the pin and sell it as a good one.

Is this correct, or are y'all using scrapper as a generic term for any bad pin (Sedesma, pro pin, etc)?

What is the easiest way to tell a scrapper from a real pin? I can easily identify Pro Pins and Sedesmas, just not sure about scrappers.

Can someone clarify and "learn" me something new? :lmao:

Scrappers are pins that are not authorized for sale by Disney, they are pins that should have been "scrapped". Sedesma are no longer approved by Disney, Propins can be traded with CMs, Euro pins are also no longer approved by Disney.

There isn't an "easy" way to tell in most cases, you just have to educate yourself on the different "signs" of scrappers. You can do that by visiting pinpics and doing a search for scrappers, they will have some examples there.

OK, thanks.

I have been reading all of the scrapper threads since I wrote this, and have learned a little.

I'll spend somemore time on PinPics and try to educate myself a little more.
