My husband has agreed to go at the very end of August with me or Nov. 5 to 12. If I go in Nov. I will have to take kids out of school for 3 days which I don't mind. ( I know there are some against it). I just don't know what to do. I know the weather is very iffy in Aug. but we could drive then and save money. Any thoughts? Thanks :confused3

november. it is very hot and humid in august. we live on the texas gulf coast and florida is just like texas in august--HOT :sunny: :earboy2:  :umbrella:

Love November. The heat/humidity in August is awful--coupled with the crowds, no thanks! I love November, plus you'd be there for the food and wine festival!

The last time we went was in November..absolutely perfect time to go weatherise & crowdwise.

I can speak from experience on this one. I took the kids out of school last September to go to Disney. Some people would say that was bad enough but we headed down there when EVERYONE was leaving Florida because of Hurricane Ivan. Everyone was calling me a fool but we headed down there anyway. Now, the original planned path of the Hurricane was to go thru Tampa and head straight to Orlando. But we got "lucky". The storm changed paths and went to the Gulf and went into Alabama (which is where I live). While we were on vacation, we had a grand total of 12 minutes of rain. On the otherhand, when we got back there was a good bit of damage to the City that we live in. ( Had a pine tree miss our house by about 10 feet.) The vacation was great so I would have to say take the kids out of school for a few days. Let them right a paper about the trip and turn it in as a project. You will have more fun, get to do more, and won't be as hot. :sunny:

Sounds like you are leaning more towards November yourself. It will definetly be less crowded and it won't be as sticky hot.

I have heard that quite a few school districts are getting real tough with unscheduled days out of school. If your school has a limit per yaer on unexcused absentses your kids could be suspended, expelled, or flunked. I would contact your local schooll board and make sure there are no penalties for taking your kids out of school on scheduled attendence days.

One other word of warning, if you are told there is no problem be sure to get it in writting or you may still face a problem later [it has happened].

sorry about the typos
