What to do, what to do, booking on points

Here's the deal, first time to DL, main reason is to see where DS is going to be living and working, and a little bit of Disney thrown in on top of things.

Here is what we have so far:

Thursday night arrival and stay at VGC

Friday night, stay at VGC

Saturday, stay with son and see where he is living

Sunday, can get either DL standard view, premium view or Paradise pier standard view, California Adventure view or Concierge City of pool view, no VGC available

Monday, can get VGC and all of the above available for Sunday.

Tuesday, depart

We will be flying in and out of LAX, using some sort of shuttle transportation to and from the airport. We have not stayed in any of these resorts.

If I book the VGC that is available right now for Monday and if Sunday doesn't come thru, which I really don't think will happen, then we have to change resorts for one night, kind of a pain, in my opinion.

If I book one of the hotels now and then VGC does become available, I cannot just switch the points because they have become "resort points".

Not sure what Paradise Pier concierge level gets me.

Any thoughts on this will be more than welcome and appreciated.

Hmmmmm, that's a tough one.

Is there any way you could use your points to book a room in the hotel section of the Grand Californian for Sunday and Monday? That way you don't have to move at all for just one night, and you still have the benefit of staying at the Grand Californian, which location wise can't be beat.

I know that's not a good use of points though.....and it would cost more points to do that.

Is it worth using more points so you don't have to move for a night? If it's not worth it to you, then the Paradise Pier is basically an easy walk from the Grand Californian. Just walk out of the front doors of the Grand Californian, down the driveway, cross the street and the crosswalk, and then walk down the sidewalk to the entrance doors of the Paradise Pier. They have nice big, bright rooms there, and the upper Themepark view (California Adventure view) from the Paradise Pier is awesome! My family are big fans of the Paradise Pier, but we've never done concierge there, so I'm afraid I can't help you with any questions about concierge.

The Disneyland hotel is also very nice, and the grounds and waterfalls there are so pretty. Most of the rooms there are also quite large (although they do have a few small rooms), and they are currently upgrading the rooms, although I don't think any of the new rooms are done yet.....or at least available to stay in.

Deja vu, I just replied to your post on the DVC forum. :)

Over there I mentioned a bit about PPH concierge, said the same that DSM said about getting to the parks from there.

Since you're going to your son's for that one night, and have to pack up etc anyway, I would just come back, settle in at PPH, and stay there.

Thanks, yes, I posted everywhere I knew to post to perhaps get some feedback.

I ended up calling MS again, and tonight and the helpful CM suggested going ahead and booking the Monday night stay at VCG and if Sunday doesn't become available, cancel it and then use those holding points to book Saturday and Sunday at one of the hotels. I went ahead and did this as we would prefer to stay at VGC if possible (just love my DVC), but it will be interesting to see if my studio becomes available with less than a month to go to check-in.
