We will be spending a week in Orlando and would like to take 1 day out of it in the middle just for relaxing. We will swim at the hotel pool, if it is not too cold. Can anyone else suggest any other things to do to relax. Are there outlet malls, movie theaters? Are there any out door drive in's anywhere anymore? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Lynn

On our relax day we slept in till about 10 am...right before "Mousekeeping" came into clean, ate lunch around 11:45 or so, went swimming for about 2 hours, then took a nap...a little laundry...and then went to wherever we had ressies for dinner. Shopping is not relaxing to me at Disney (too many people)...nor is laundry, but it had to be done!!

We go to a water park and lay on the lazy river most of the day. Between that and letting the kids play to their heart's content in the kiddie section, we're all happy.

Our relax day consists usually of swimming by the pool and a trip to Downtown Disney. Shopping may not be relaxing for everyone, but we like to eat at Rainforest Cafe and Ghirardelli for dessert. We have also taken the monorail to see the resorts and have lunch in one of them.

We have 3 "off" days scheduled for our fall trip.

Day 1- sleep in, then lay by the pool at the resort. Eat lunch at the resort. MNSSHP in the late afternoon/evening.

Day 2- do a waterpark til early afternoon, then head back to resort to relax. In the evening, head to WL to eat at WCC, then take the boat to FW and do the campfire and see the free movie.

Day 3- sleep in, then hit DTD. DD and DH will do DQ while I shop and hang out. In the evening, we will head to the Boardwalk or Poly for dinner and hanging out.

On our 'off' days, we:

- schedule a late breakfast at Chef Mickey's - 11:30ish - acts like lunch. Since we can now park at the Contemporary, we then go for a ride around the monorail a few times (can you tell I have a 2 yr. old boy?). We sometimes get off at the Grand Floridian and walk around, maybe stop for a cookie or ice cream.

- go to dinner at AKL - go early and watch them feed the animals around 5. Many like BOMA, but we just do the cafeteria style in the basement - still gets us home early for bed

- go to princess dinner at 1900 Park Faire at the Grand Floridian - again, we schedule it early, so we are first (4:30ish) and leaving at a time early enough to be home for bedtime

- DTD - we try to get there early before the crowds. Note: this is a bad option on Saturdays - many use this as the stop in-between check out and flights or between flight arrival and check in. gets to be a bit mob-like.

- Boardwalk - lunch or dinner at the ESPN club. keeps daddy happy!

Our "relax" day consists of sleeping in, lounging by the pool, doing any laundry if need be, Downtown Disney, and maybe a park at night.
THis past trip was the first time we had a down day and I dont think I'll ever go without one again. Was such a nice day to have!!!

Aren't they great? I just can't do parks nonstop for more than about 3 days anymore. Having that downtime is so nice- makes everyone more happy and less likely to melt down, stress out, fall out, pass out, etc!!:rotfl:

There is so much to do at Disney even without going into the parks. Over at Fort Wilderness you can go horseback riding, they have a petting zoo, check out the campfire with Chip and Dale. They also do a movie every night over there after the campfire. You can rent a boat and go out on the lake. They have two minature golf places on Disney property. Over in Downtown Disney, there is a movie theater and tons of stores. MY DD4's favorite is the lego store. The kids can go there and play with legos all they want.

And P.S. The pools are all heated.

Have a great time!!!

Don't know about drive-in's, but the Chip and Dale thing someone mentioned is outside. Several years ago, we had a rainy day and went to a movie theatre in Celebration (Disney's planned town). At the time, the stadium seating and all that was a new thing - we loved it. I think there is an even bigger one at Downtown Disney now, but Celebration was nice to tour, and no rushing around for rides, etc.

On our last trip, we rented a "surry bike" at Port Orleans-Riverside. It was very nice to ride around the grounds at our own pace, and you can also rent boats. We were staying there, but I think guests from other resorts can do it, too - just call ahead.

And if you plan on going again some day, you can always visit other resorts to check them out for next time.

Have a great week!

Tinkersmama-I was going to to post the EXACT same thing!!
You really know how to vacation!!:rotfl:

Our favorite downtime activities:

- CR arcade and eat at Concourse or Chef Mickeys. Maybe monorail ride and visit Poly and GF as well. Try to ride up front on the monorail.
- DTD for movie or Disney Quest or a little shopping. Maybe eat at Rainforest while there.
- FW Campfire movie - we usually hang out for the sing a long with Chip and Dale and roast Marshmallows. We tend to watch a small part of the movie and head back.
- Of course a bit of swimming, sleeping late, and late breakfast at WCC.

One time we signed up for horseback riding at 2:00...bad idea in August, as that is when the afternoon rainstorms come. From POR, we took a bus, a boat, and another bus to get to the stables, just in time for rain. So plan accordingly and leave lots of time for transportation.

We are not staying on Disney property. Does anyone know if we can ride on the monorail with out using up one of our disney days? We would like to walk around the different resorts. We would like to see "All Star Movie", and walk through the Dolphin/or Swan. Can you just walk onto these resorts without having reservations???

DTD has a very large movie theater complex, which might be a choice if the weather isn't very warm on your off day.

HEY!!! Us too. Nothing sooths the feet like a day on a lazy river.:woohoo:
