What to do new Years Eve at WDW???

We (me, DD8 and DS4) will be at Disney Dec 31 (our check in day at POP). Can anyone give me any NON-PARK ideas for this evening? We won't be awake until midnight since we are planning on touring the next am (early) but would be interested in ideas as to what we could do during the evening of the 31st. I was thinking about maybe going to the Boardwalk area but I have never been there and don't know what we could do there. Or what about watching fireworks from somewhere. But where?
Also, we will be relying on WDW transportation since we won't have a rental car.

Any suggestions for NYE at WDW would be greatly appreciated.

We spent the day at Animal kingdom. By 3pm we had the park to ourselves. Went back to the Hotel and changed. We went to dinner at Boatwrights then swam for a few hrs. We were in bed by 10pm and up bright and early.

We had to leave at 4am

is where I went last year on NYE. I walked around taking in the sights, had dinner at Wolfgang Puck's Express and then went to the late showing of Cirque du Soleil (we got out around 11 pm). If you've never seen the show, perhaps you could catch the earlier one (around 5 pm, I think) and be back to the resort by 9 or so for an early evening. Otherwise, you could just walk around (ice cream sundaes?!) and people watch (everybody going to Pleasure Island seemed to be dressed up - it was fun to see).
