What to do in Port Canaveral?

This time as a port stop instead of a port to leave from. (I just started to put a smiley there but actually I'm not sure this is a good thing!) I'll be there 12 hours, 7 to 7, with Royal Caribbean. We just did Disney World a few months ago so we probably wouldn't do the parks. I considered renting a car and going to one of the water parks since we have plenty of tickets for those. I like the idea of an airboat ride or some sort of non Royal Caribbean tour. Is the space center fun or on the 'dull but have to do it' side? Any and all advice opinions and suggestions welcome!

As an Air Force family, we're a bit enamored with the space program, but it is really a MUST do! There are tons of interactive exhibits, lots of history, and a beautiful setting. Depending on the age of your children, it can be as calm or as exciting as you want to make it. Check it out online, and decide for yourself. The website will tell you all you need to know to determine if it is the right stop for your family.

You mentioned airboat rides. Here is a link to an option which isnt very far from the port. With a rental car, probably 1/2 hour away. Also supposed to be a good place to eat a casual meal.
