Our upcoming trip to Orlando is longer than any other we've taken, at 14 days. We've never had anyone get sick enough to need a doctor, but just to be prepared for a longer trip where anything is possible, what has anyone done if someone needs to see a doctor and get a prescription? We will not have a car and are staying at the Swan.

There is an urgent care clinic right off property that I believe offers transportation there and back.

Scroll down and it says:

Offsite Urgent Care
Florida Hospital Centra Care Walk-In Urgent Care Centers are open 8:00 AM to midnight, Monday through Friday, and 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday.

Complimentary transportation is available and many insurance plans are accepted. Call (407) 934-2273 for more info.

My youngest DD got sick while we were there. I called pediatrician and described her symptoms (sinus congestion- not horribly I'll but not getting better) and the doctor called a script into a Rx service that delivers (I got that info before I called pediatrician). Within 3 hours, our Rx was there- charged to our room as authorized. It was not fun, but was soooo much better than I would have imagined.

Had a stomach thing when I was there last month. I had to call to cancel a breakfast reservation, (with only two hours before hand) hoping I wouldn't get hit with the no show fee. They told me not to worry about the fee and asked if I needed a doctor. I let them know it was a simple gastro-intestinal type and just needed rest and hydration. Disney has doctors on call that will come to you. I'm sure it's not cost effective, but nice to know if need be they will get you a doctor. I hope this answer helps and that people don't abuse Disney's courtesy.

Boy, that's good to know about the doctors. I wonder if it's a recent thing, within the last few years. On one solo trip, about 5 years ago-I had my worst nightmare-got sick while I was solo. Fortunately it was just a stomach bug, but no one answered the phone, so I did a less than adult thing. I stood in the hall and just cried and yelled for help. A housekeeper came, very nice, and called her manager for me. Got medication, good rest, and a happy ending. BTW, for anyone with a stomach bug, the soda in Mexico's CS, Sidral, is very soothing.

We've used the Walgreens clinic right outside of Disney Springs. You would need to take a cab there but they were very good & quick. You can also make an appointment online beforehand to lessen your wait time. Back in 2006 we used the service that had a doctor come to our room. It was costly - but worth it with a 4 & 2 year old.

I don't think that WDW employees doctors on call, but there is a service that can have a doctor come to your room.WDW can give you that information. Our first line of defense is our own doctors, especially for kids. There is always someone on call, they know your kids, and have their medical records. They can call you something in, give advice and even recommend where to take your child if that becomes necessary.

My DS ended up with an infection on his lip a few years ago when we were at WDW. (He had a nervous habit of fiddling with his lip and after doing it for a week when meeting characters, he ended up with a staph infection on his lip, poor guy!). I called the "front desk" at WL and they hooked us up with Doctors on Call. A doctor came to our hotel room, checked my son and gave him an antibiotic prescription which he then called in to a pharmacy that delivered right to the resort. My insurance ended up covering much of our out-of-pocket expenses for the care. The doctor was very nice and my son was cared for without us ever having to leave the resort.

Thanks to everyone for your info. I appreciate it and am glad to be prepared and won't panic if we need healthcare. Unfortunately, we just lost our pediatrician a couple of months ago and are switching to a new healthcare provider system at this time as a result, so I don't have anyone reliable to call if something comes up. I feel better knowing some places to call near WDW.

We stayed at the Swan two weeks ago and my DD had a bad cold and told me her ear hurt two days before we were supposed to fly home. I asked at the concierge desk if they had a doctor who would come to the hotel and they gave me the information about a doctor service that would come to the hotel, information on a pharmacy that would deliver prescriptions to the hotel and information on the closest urgent care (which presumably would be less expensive.) We didn't end up needing any of that, but if you get sick just go to the concierge desk and ask for that information and they will give it to you. Hope you have a healthy vacation!!

We had a trip to an Urgent Care while there. They came and picked my SIL and niece up and brought them back afterwards. We got all the info from the front desk.

Make sure you pack a mini pharmacy, too. I leave tonight and one of my tasks today is to head to the store to fill up on Tylenol, Motrin, etc.

But IF you don't have anything with you in the parks, first aid can help you out. There's an actual nurse there who can help you with whatever your child (or you I suppose, but I've never used it for me) needs. A very nice nurse at HS helped me figure out which medicine would taste the best for my son's headache once. :)

We used Turner drugs once too. My DH wasn't feeling well and we called our doctor back home. He called the prescription in to Turner Drugs and they delivered right to the resort. You have to pay out of pocket and they submit to your insurance.

That's really good to know about them picking you up and bringing you back. As a solo, if I get sick how would I get there otherwise? Besides, I don't have a car! I should get Urgent Care's phone number just in case.

There are also a few online urgent cares that you can setup an appointment and consult the doctor via phone or video chat. I used one out of California when I had a very bad sinus infection and my family doctor couldn't see me for 3 days. Instead of going to a walk in urgent care, I set up the appointment online, described the symptoms to the doctor and he called in a prescription for me. They will bill your insurance and you just pay your copay. If you don't have insurance it's just a flat fee of about $80. It worked great for what I needed it for but would not work for all situations. Just another option.

About a year or so ago, while at Disney, I suddenly started having really bad stomach pains. I was there with my mom and granddaughter, and we had flown in so did not have a car. My mom called the front desk and they said they would get a cab to take me to the Celebrations hospital. They paid the taxi fare, and told me to get a receipt for cab ride back. Brought the receipt to the front desk and they reimbursed me. We were staying at Pop Century - they were very helpful and so nice - and the hospital emergency room staff was wonderful!!! So caring! It was a kidney stone; with a shot for the pain, I felt better. Thankfully, we were flying home the next day.

Years ago, my youngest daughter got really sick and we used the in-room doctor. He was very nice and called in a prescription which was delivered to the hotel. By the next day, she was feeling so much better!!!

Last year my daughter twisted her ankle and the front desk immediately had numbers for multiple doctors, including a couple that could come to the room if wanted. They also gave the number to disney paramedics who can transport to the local hospitals/clinics at no charge. Same trip since we extended it we had to renew a daily prescription for her and once again they had the info for a drug store that would deliver to the resort.

If you need medical help, disney is very prepared to help you, even if it's not life threatening.
