What to do for one-day in Orlando - suggestions?

We have a 7:30 flight out of Orlando Airport on Wednesday night.

If we drive to Orlando early in the day... that would give us half day to spend in town. I don't want to pay for a full amusement park ticket for essentially a half day of entertainment. Is there something we can do on International Drive (or anywhere) for a less expensive alternative?

Thanks, Dan. That's my question exactly. Does anyone have any suggestions for a PLACE to hang out or find some entertainment? Where should we go for a half day?

Thanks for the suggestion. Funspot looks cool, but my kids are too old for the baby rides, but too short for the go-carts.

Is Wonderworks worth the money?

If not, it looks like it might be another afternoon window shopping at Downtown Disney... :confused3

Among my favorite places in the entire united States, just as special as WDW are the Springs of Central Florida. These are natural areas located in national forests, state parks, and county parks. They are shockingly beautiful, the kind of smimming holes you only see in Tarzan movies. Disney has the fake thing down pat, but this is the real deal, old Florida tourism at its best. These spots are very popular with the locals but out of staters pretty much don't know about 'em anymore.

There is a catch, though. I am talking about cold water swimming and snorkeling. The water comes out of the Spring at 72 degrees. So it's a shock at first. Still, everyone gets in and has a whale of a time.

The closest one to Orlando is Rock Spring at Kelly Park in Apopka, Florida. This is a very shallow stream that you can float down yourself or you can rent inner tubes just outside the park. This is a great place to relax and have fun and is perfect for a half day. Park entrance is $5 per vehicle.

My other suggestion is the Morse Museum in Winter Park which has a very unique collection of Tiffany glass. Much of the collection is comprised of pieces Tiffany designed for his own home in New York and were salvaged from a fire. Furniture, an entire chapel, windows. My kids thought it was beautiful and we enjoyed this very much.
